translation traducere is a mental activity in which a meaning of given
linguistic discourse is rendered from one language to
another
translation studies traductologie the study of
the theory and practice of translating and interpreting,
especially in an academic context, combining
elements of social science and the humanities
source-language limbă-sursă the language from which a text is to be translated into
another language
target-language limbă-țintă the language into which a text in a given language is
to be translated.
selective translation traducere selectivă a translation in which only important information for
the client’s
purposes is kept.
absolute translation traducere absolută the ST is transferred into the TL with no alteration to
the content or the form of
the original document.
abstract translation traducere abstractă a condensed translation of all the information in the
ST is made in order to give
the client rapid access to specific types of
information.
diagrammatic traducere schematică the content of the ST is transferred to the TL by
translation means of a diagram rather
than by text.
keyword translation traducere prin cuvinte- keywords in the ST are translated into the TL to
cheie determine whether or not the
information contained in the ST requires fuller
translation and, if so, how it should be translated.
translation with traducere cu ST is translated in its entirety without regard to its
reconstructions reconstituiri form. The aim of
such a translation is to communicate the content of
the ST in the simplest possible way; all the

sight translation traducere la vedere refers to the unprepared, oral translation of a written
text, a summary of the content of ST is provided on
demand.
machine translation traducere automată using a computer to translate from one language to a
second language.
intralingual traducere an interpretation of verbal signs by means of other
translation intralingvistică signs of the
same language.
interlingual traducere an interpretation of verbal signs by means of some
translation interlingvistică other language.

intersemiotic traducere intersemiotică an interpretation of verbal signs by means of signs of

translation nonverbal sign systems.
code shifting schimbare de cod transformations and finding equivalents, performed
by a translator.
pre-translation etapa ce precedă all the preparation that takes place up to the moment
procesul de traducere the translator receives all the materials and resources
 for translation.
post-translation etapa ce succedă all activities that follow delivery of the translated

retranslation retroversiune translating a work that has previously been translated
into the same language
consecutive interpretare consecutivă a mode of interpreting in which the speaker makes a
interpretation speech (or says a few sentences) whilst the interpreter
takes notes. The interpreter then reproduces what the
speaker has said for the audience.
simultaneous interpretare simultană a process where the interpreter delivers the message
interpretation in another language
while the speaker conveys the message without
interruption.
bilingualism bilingvism refers to the coexistence of more than one language
system within an individual
chuchotage șușotaj a form of interpreting where the linguist stands or sits
alongside a small target audience and whispers a
simultaneous interpretation of what’s being said.

free translation traducere liberă translating a text in such a way that it reproduces the
general meaning of the original text.
metaphrase metafrază involves the exact reproduction or the literal
translation of an author's work from the primary
language to a different language
paraphrase parafrazare a rewording of something spoken or written, usually
for the purpose of making its meaning clearer
