It is noted that in some areas of the existing concrete surfaces staining has occurred from the natural run off from the adjacent landscaped areas over time. As normal washing cannot fully remove the discoloration which has penetrated the concrete surface, prior written agreement must be made with the Client regarding the acceptance criteria of the existing staining prior to the Applicator taking possession of the surfaces to be stained. The applicator shall not take any responsibility for the removal of such stains. The condition of the existing channels, catchpits and maintenance stairways at handover shall be in a clean and tidy condition within the contractually specified tolerances. A joint inspection with the designated Applicator and the Main Contractor will be carried out at the handover meeting 8.2 Preparation of Existing Conerete Surface The existing surfaces will be power-washed to remove dust, grease, , loose particles, laitance and other surface contamination (other than the deep staining noted under item 8.1), Application of Staining Agent ‘The application of the staining agents will be supervised by staff who have been specifically trained by LM Scofield Company's authorized Hong Kong Agent and will be in strict accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations as summarized below. In case of accidental spillage, suitable quantities of clean fresh water and mixed alkaline solution of sodium bicarbonate of sodium carbonate will be kept close to the application area, ‘© Application method will be by a hand-held spray. ‘The staining agent will be brushed into the concrete surface using conventional yard brooms. Care will be taken to ensure that the rate of spray over the concrete remains constant. The rate of spray will be dependant on the absorption of the concrete surface. Once dripping occurs, the surplus will be sponged and brushed to adjacent locations. + Should there be an accidental spillage, the staining agent will be mopped up with a suitable cloth. The area will then be washed down with a mixed alkaline solution of sodium bicarbonate or sodium carbonate. The resulting neutralized residue will then be safe to be disposed of into the sewage. * After the first application of the staining agent, the concrete surface will be allowed to dry. A second application will then be applied in the same manner as described as the first coat. «After a minimum of approximately four hours, the surface of the concrete will be cleaned by scrubbing using detergent with a stiff bristled brush. The surface will then be rinsed with alkalized water (mixed with sodium bicarbonate or sodium carbonate) to neutralize the stain. Disposal of this non-toxic ‘material will then be through conventional method. Handover On completion of staining works for a pre-agreed length of the channels, catchpits and maintenance stairways, the area will be inspected by the Client's authorized representatives.
