11. Appendix.1. Introduction
This method statement for dredging is prepared in
accordance with Specification and Construction
, Drawings and the comments from PMR on 26/5/97 and
11/6/97. Xt covers the following items of works.
1.1 Dredging the marine deposit in trench of Quay
wall foundation in H1.
2. Plants
® All the mud dredging will be carried out by grab
dredger and transported by bottom discharge split / hopper
barges which is being accepted by EPD.
2.1 Plant List
The following plants will be employed for the
execution of works, All plants will be licensed in
accordance with the requirements of the Marine
Department of Hong Kong.
e
Plant Capacity No. Employed
Grab Dredger 8 cum. 1
Split / Hopper
barges 900-1000 cum. 4-6
Tug Boat 800 hp- 1200 hp 3-53. Permit
Relevant permits necessary for the dredging works
will be applied for and obtained prior to commencement of
works, and the status is as below:
Item Permit
1 ‘ Notice to Mariners
2 Dumping Permit
4. Control of Position and Level
4.1 Horizontal Control
The setting out for the dredging operation will be
based on a 10m x 30m grid system dredging box. The
position of the dredger will be controlled by sighting
the target flags erected on shore. In area which is far
away from the shoreline where the target flags are
difficult to located from the dredger, DGPS will be
employed. The anchors are dropped such that the
dredger can cover a sufficiently large area. The
dredger can be winched laterally and longitudinally by
adjusting the anchor wire to the desired grid.
4.2 Vertical Control
The vertical control of dredging will be by means of
chain sounding. A tide gauge will be installed firmly
4at a suitable location within the site area by surveyors
to give water level. The dredgers will be provided
with markings on the lifting wire. The dredged depth
will be frequently monitored by chain sounding on
board for every meter shift so as to ensure that the
design profile is met.
5. Sequence of Works
Sequence of Dredging for marine deposit in the
breakwater trench.
The pre-dredging and initial survey of the existing
seabed will be carried out by the approved
hydrographic surveyor prior to the commencement of
dredging. The above survey will be combined
depending on the time gap.
One grab dredgers in associated with a fleet of 2 tug
boats and 3 split/hopper barges will be employed for
the dredging works. The dredger will be moored by
four anchors and the position will be checked
frequently.
The dredging work will be divided into two phases,
since the dredge material is considered as
uncontaminated mud. Firstly, the bulk dredging
operation based on the grid plan of 10m x 30m and
secondly the trimming operation will be based on the
grid plan of 6m x 6m.Bulk Dredging works will be carried out in phase 1 in
layers until 1-1/2 meter above the designed level is
reached. The phase 2 trimming operation will be
carried out. The dredged mud will be dumped to the
designated dumping ground. All the barges have also
been provided with the GPS system to ensure the
contaminated mud has been dumped in the proper
dumping ground.
Trimming operation will be carried out based on the
grid plan of 6m x 6m. Once the designed dredged level
and/ or hard stratum (alluvium) has been reached, the
Engineer will be notified immediately. Grab sampling
will be employed for allocate the dredge level and
position. All the samples will be kept on board. The
grab sample will be kept inside a plastic bag with label
stated the level and position of the sample taken. The
post survey will again be carried out before the
commencement of filling works. The area close to the
Ro Ro Ramp will be trimmed at the last, and filling
operation will be the first. The bulk dredging
operation will be ceased 4m above the design profile
the cover area of 40m away from the existing Ro Ro
Ramp will be trimmed at last of the whole trench.
While dredging near the existing shore, a checking
point for stability will be erected for monitoring the
stability. (Detail monitoring will be submit
Separately)6. Environmental mitigation measures
The dredging of marine deposit will be by grab
dredger.. Barges used for the transportation of
dredged mud will be hopper / split type fitted with
tubber strip seals at bottom to prevent the leakage of
mud. This combination
of plants complies with the current requirements of
environmental control and is encouraged by EPD.
7. Navigation aspects and aids
The boundary line for the marine work area, including
the operation of rock removal from the existing
breakwater and the dredging operation in the main
trench of the breakwater foundation, will be indicated
by buoys painted in yellow, and with yellow flash light
installed.
A work boat will be employed for safe guard the
marine traffic while the marine operation is carrying
out, in order to keep the marine access in safe
condition.
Life jackets will be provided to all the crews on board.
8. Record
Daily operation will be recorded in daily record sheet,
which will be submitted the day after.11. Appendix:
