The Importance of Women's Choice: Abortion as a Right

Women’s rights have greatly evolved throughout the centuries but abortion has
been criminalized in some of the countries up until now. It is understandable why some
might think abortion is an inhumane act that is unnecessary and unlawful, especially
since there are alternatives. What people who are pro-life fail to see is the psychological
and emotional damage that is inflicted on the woman during the pregnancy. If abortion
were to be banned, women who have gotten pregnant through rape and or incest would
have to withstand the shame and pain of knowing that an unwanted child is growing
inside them. Victims would be forced to have a constant reminder of their rape. Forcing
a mother to continue a risky pregnancy essentially qualifies as attempted murder. Every
woman should be given the choice to discontinue the pregnancy if her life or mental
health is at stake. It should not be labeled as a selfish reason because how can an
unwell mother take good care of her own child if she is not well herself? Also having a
child has a dramatic effect on her future and financial security. It may even result in a
lifelong hardship and suffering.

Every nation in the world should view abortion as a fundamental human right,
protected by the constitution, and morally acceptable. A woman should be the only one
in control of her body. A woman ought to be able to choose whether to have an abortion
and give birth.
Every woman should have the right to decide what happens to her own body.
This means having the freedom to choose whether to continue or end a pregnancy
based on own circumstances, values, and beliefs. Having a child is a forever
commitment and not everyone is ready to make that commitment. Nobody should be
forced into having an unwanted child. When women can make choices about their
reproductive health, it empowers them to pursue education, careers, and personal goals
on an equal footing with men. This helps create a more inclusive and fair society.

A woman's right to choose abortion is rooted in the principles of personal

autonomy, human rights, and gender equality. Protecting this right is not just about
abortion; it's about respecting and valuing women's choices. By doing so, we contribute
to a society that empowers and supports the freedom of all individuals.
