MUSIC

African Music was primarily used in ceremonial rites such as birth, worship, marriage, and death. African
music has many sources of stylistic influences. African music produced varied characteristics and genres.

Different Classification of Instruments

IDIOPHONES- percussion instruments that are either struck with a mallet or against one another

MEMBRANOPHONES- are instruments which have vibrating animal membranes

AEROPHONES- Instruments that produce sound primarily by trapping or enclosing a body or column of
air and causing it to vibrate

CHORDOPHONES- instruments that produce sounds from vibration of strings

TRADITIONAL MUSIC OF AFRICA

AFROBEAT- is a term used to describe the fusion of West African and Black American Music

APALA- is a musical genre from Nigeria in the Yoruba tribal style

BLUES- the musical form of the 19th century that has deep roots in African - American communities. The
notes of the blues create an expressive and soulful sound.

CONCHA- kind of wind instrument made from a seashell usually of a large snail

WHISTLES- are instruments made of natural elements such as bone from animals

1920's. A standard big band is consist of 17- piece instruments

RAGTIME- is an American popular musical style mainly for piano. Scott Joplin is the first black American
that composes the popular Maple Leaf Rag, Solace, and The Entertainer and also known as "King of
Ragtime"

COUNTRY AND WESTERN MUSIC


ROCK AND ROLL- was a hugely popular song form in the united States during the late 1940's to the
1960's. The greatest exponent of the rock and roll style was the legendary ELVIS PRESLEY

Computer art or digital art first came on the scene in the early 1960s. Thus, the early experimenters
were not necessarily artists, but engineers and scientist who had access to the experience with the
hardware needed.
