4.0 WORK METHODOLOGY

4.1 The engineer should approve the materials to be used. The routes routing as
well as the sizes will follow the approved shop drawing.

4.2 Make sure there is the availability of the approved materials so that the work
can be carried out.

4.3 Materials will be physically inspected before leaving stores to ensure no

damage is present.

4.4 Site Supervisor will evaluate drawings and Materials to ensure they are
relevant before work starts.

4.5 The Site Engineer will give appropriate instructions to Supervisor. The Site
Engineer will also offer valid construction/shop Drawings.

4.6 Site Supervisor will make sure that available equipment and tools are
compliant with required regulations.

4.7 The Site Supervisor also informs the tradesmen about the required safety
precautions.

4.8 The certificate for area handover will be signed for clearance before the cable
pulling activity begins.

4.9 Inspection of the entire route will take place to ensure the completeness of
the routing, the appropriateness of the used bends and the lack of sharp
edges.

4.10 Make sure that only last revision drawings are used.

4.11 Identify where the panels/equipment are located.

4.12 While preparing cable termination, arrangements will be made so that proper
spare length is left available at the termination point inside the panels or
equipment. Maximum spare length will equal the sum of the panel’s depth,
width, and height.

4.13 Before laying the cable on the pipe rack, scaffolding and platforms will be
provided wherever required along the route of the cable tray.

4.14 Ladders shall be used to provide access for roller placement.

4.15 Personnel working on cable pulling will be equipped at all times with safety
harnesses fixed steadily to the overhead support.

4.16 Before Cable pulling commences, the actual length of the route will be
measured and checked to ensure adequacy of provided cable length.

4.17 Ensure the cable pulling winch is placed at a suitable position according to
the length of the cable and the condition of the site.

5.0 METHOD OF INSTALLATION / LAYING OF LOW VOLTAGE CABLE

5.1 Cables placement will take place mainly above ground in perforated, ladder-
type cable trays.

5.2 2. Placement of cable rollers every 6-12 meters or as required will ensure that
the cable will not be in contact with the tray.

5.3 If a cable winch is used, it will be installed properly for cable pulling.

5.4 The drum schedule will be used to identify the cable drum that will be used
for cable pulling.

5.5 Unpack the cable drum.

5.6 gripper or a cable shock will be used to fix the cable to the winch.

5.7 Cable laying will begin from one end of the route or any other suitable point
if needed

5.8 The cables’ bending radius will conform to cable manufacturer’s

recommendation.

5.9 Prior to cable cutting, inspection of both ends shall take place to make sure
there is sufficient length for proper dressing and end termination.

5.10 Right after every cable is finished, all cables shall be tested for insulation
resistance

5.11 Installation of cable tags.

5.12 Update the cable and drum schedules with cable pulling information.

5.13 Following completion of all same route cables, cable dressing and clamping
will take place.

5.14 Trefoil (three-foil formation) laying shall be used with single core cables.

5.15 Punch list and installation shall be inspected.

5.16 When cable laying is completed, insulation test will take place according to
attached format.

5.17 Raceways’ inspection will make sure that wires are compliant with the
installation

5.18 When more than one wires are installed in the same raceway, they should be
pulled in the raceway at the same time.

5.19 Use guide wires and similar equipment when wire pulling, to support the
tension and avoid possible damage.

5.20 Wherever the Engineer approves, use lubricant or wire pulling compound if
necessary. Ensure that the pulling compound used is chemically compatible
with any insulations or conductors it touches.

5.21 Conductor splices must be enclosed in junction boxes

5.22 Use a minimum of 300mm of slack conductors inside DB and at each outlet as
needed.

5.23 Ensure proper wire installation in all boxes.

5.24 Following installation, the Wires Insulation Test should be conducted

according to the attached format.

6.0 SAFETY, HEALTH, SECURITY AND ENVIRONMENT

Strictly follow as per the manufacturer’s Health and Safety recommendations for
handling and used of the materials. Ensure all involved personnel shall be aware of
the same.

A special safety inspector is assigned; all personnel involved in this

work shall use the mandatory P.P.E as follows.
a. Safety Helmet
b. Safety Shoes/Boots
c. Safety glasses.
d. All other PPE as required by the risk assessment.

All work will be undertaken by qualified competent persons with experience of the
type of work described above, and in all cases in full accordance with safety
procedures specified in the company's health and safety Policy.

7.0 TESTING & COMMISSIONING PROCEDURE

The following are the tests that are to be carried out to final electrical circuits and
distribution boards. The observation & readings values to be recorded in the
appropriate formats.

a) Visual Check

i) All electrical components such as conduit, wires, trunking, light fitting, socket
outlets and etc connected to the final circuit of the distribution boards are to be
visually inspected against any physical damage and for proper installation.

ii) Check the installation of distribution boards and the internal wiring to ensure
electrical & mechanically sound connections, identification, labelling etc.

iii) Check that all the metallic components are properly earthed/bonded.

b) Polarity Check

i) Ensure that single pole switches are installed in the live conductor.

ii) All Three phase termination should check using phase rotating meter.

c) Continuity of protective conductors

The continuity of the protective conductor from the farthest point to the main earth
is to be checked for earth final circuit with a multi meter and value to be within the
Suruhanjaya Tenaga permissible limit.

d) Insulation Resistance

Insulation resistance between phase, neutral & earth is to be measured with a

500Volts DC megger and values to be verified with the permissible limit.

The mains supply can now switched on the final circuit to enable further tests to be
carried out, which require supply voltage.

g) RCCB Test

All RCCB (RCCB) are to be checked by means of RCCB tester with minimum 3
different set current (one setting above, one below and rated sensitivity currents of
an ELCB) and trip time to be recorded. The values to be verified with the permissible
limits.

h) Circuit Performance

i) Switch on the MCB in the DB.

ii) In case of lighting circuits, operate all the switches connected in the circuit one
after another and ensure their functioning to be desired light fixture in the desired
manner.

iii) In case of ring/radial circuits, test all the sockets with attest lamp to ensure the
availability of power.

iv) In case of any other fixed equipment, operate the relevant switch and observe
the functioning of the equipment
