2.10.1 Removal of the Output Shaft Seal


Special tools are required for this procedure:

Remove as follows:

1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, shut down the engine, and set the parking brake.
Chock the tires.
2. Disconnect the batteries at the negative post, including the batteries for the auxiliary
Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), if equipped.
3. Drop the front of the driveline. For instructions, see the Vehicle Workshop Manual.
4. Remove the yoke (4). Refer to section "Removal of the Yoke or Flange" .
NOTICE:
Use care not to scar the seal surface of the range housing, or to bend the output tone ring
(2) during the seal removal.

5. Using an impact extractor (special tool DDE W 602 589 00 33 00) with a pulling
hook attachment (special tool DDE W 715 589 09 33 00), remove the output shaft seal
(3). See figure above.
