5.3.1 Removal of the Countershaft Brake

Remove as follows:
Show/Hide Checkboxes

1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, shut down the engine, and set the parking brake.
Chock the tires.

PERSONAL INJURY

To avoid injury, never remove any engine component while the engine is running.

2. Disconnect the batteries at the negative post, including the batteries for the auxiliary
Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), if equipped.
3. Remove the transmission. For instructions, Refer to section "Removal of the
Transmission"
4. Disconnect the air line from the countershaft brake housing.
5. Remove the snap ring (1).
EYE INJURY

To avoid injury from flying debris when using compressed air, wear adequate eye
protection (face shield or safety goggles) and do not exceed 276 kPa (40 psi) air pressure.

6. Use very low-pressure compressed air (as low pressure as possible), applied to the
clutch brake supply inlet, to remove brake valve cap (2) and valve (4). See figure above.
