The teacher would set the target for the topic

1. Define mitosis
2. Identify and describe the stages of mitosis
3. Create a model of the different stages of mitosis.

A. Activity Activity: Mitosis Cookies Group 1

The teacher will divide the class into four groups and provide each group with
prepare baked cookies. Students will show the location of the chromosomes
only.

1. Each group will show each phase of mitosis by adding icing to Group 2
represent each phase.

2. Let the students make a model of a certain stage of mitosis using the
description given.

3. Each phase is assigned to: Group 3

Group 1 – Show Prophase by creating repeated coiling of chromosomes

Group 2 – show Metaphase by creating chromosomes align at the

equatorial plane. Group 4

Group 3 – Show Anaphase by creating how the centromeres divide.

Group 4 – show telophase by creating cytoplasmic division called

cytokinesis.

1. Each group will present their output to the class in random

presentation.
2. The presentation should give emphasis in the arrangement of
chromosomes.
3. Students will evaluate the output using the rubrics. ( See attached
rubrics)

Indicator 9: Used strategies for providing timely, accurate and constructive

feedback to improve learner’s performance.

Indicator 1. Applied knowledge of content within and across curriculum

teaching areas.

Integration
I integrate the subject arts in my activity by letting the student create

their own understanding in the stages of mitosis using local materials.

Arts:
Develop their creativity create artworks that can be assembled with local
materials (A10PR-III-e-I and A7PR-Ic-e-i)

B. Analysis Take a look at the output. The teacher will ask the students to compare their
output and discuss the similarities and differences.

1. What is the stage where the chromosomes move and align themselves
at the center of the cell? 1. metaphase

2. During metaphase
2. Refer to group 2 and 3. What is the difference between metaphase
chromosomes are arranged in
and anaphase in terms of chromosomal location?
the equatorial plane whereas
during anaphase, daughter
chromosomes move towards the
opposite poles of the spindle
fiber.
3.In prophase repeated coiling of
3. How will you compare the similarities and differences in every stage?
chromosomes.

In Metaphase the chromosomes

align at the equatorial plane.

In anaphase the centromeres

divide.

In telophase cytoplasmic division

occur called cytokinesis.

4. What do you think is the importance of cell division in your body?

 The importance of mitosis
produces cells for growth
Indicator 3: and repair.
Applied a range of teaching strategies to develop critical and creative
thinking, as well as other higher -order thinking skills.

C. Abstraction What is Mitosis?

 Mitosis is the process of cell division that results in two daughter cells
with the same number of chromosomes as the parent cell.
 Mitosis occurs in our somatic cells. Ex. cells of internal organ, skin,
bones, blood and connective tissues.

What are the steps required to complete cell division?

 Inter – interphase means “between”
 Pro – Prophase means advance
 Meta – metaphase means “up or apart”
 Telo – Telophase – means “final or distant”

What happen to a cell during each stage of Mitosis?

 In prophase the chromatin condenses into
chromosomes and the nuclear envelop breaks down.

 In metaphase the chromosomes line up at the equator

of the cell. each spindle from both centromeres connect
to chromosomes through its kinetochore.

(055) 500-0881 | catarman.nhs@deped.gov.ph Page 6 of 11

Department of Education Schools Division of Northern Samar, Catarman National High School

 In Anaphase the sister chromatids separate and move

towards opposite poles of the cell.

 Telophase, the chromosomes are now at the

opposing poles of the spindle fiber. Cytoplasmic
division called cytokinesis.

So, mitosis is used to produce two daughter cells

that are genetically identical to the parent cells.
The cells copy or ‘replicates ’its chromosomes, and
then splits the copied chromosomes equally to
make sure that each daughter cell has a full set of
chromosomes.

What is the importance of mitosis?

 The importance of mitosis produces cells for growth and repair.

Indicator 1. Applied knowledge of content within and across curriculum

teaching areas.

D. Application There are cases that we discover irregularities in some parts of our body such
as swelling (hubag in waray), bump (bukol in waray) and sometimes it
increases in size or number.  Uncontrolled division of
the cell in the body can

What will happen if there is uncontrolled cell division in the body?

result to cancer.
What do you think will happen if the cell failed to divide during mitosis?

 If mitosis does not occur

two things will happen:
the organisms will be
unable to replace dead
cells as well as be unable
How are you going to maintain the cells in your body healthy? to heal wounds.

 To maintain your cells

According to the health practitioner the proper time of going to bed is 10: healthy, you must drink at
p.m., during this time our body repair/replace damage cells. least 8-12 glasses of
water and you must have
Indicator 2: Used a range of teaching strategies that enhance learner a complete sleeping hour
achievement in literacy and numeracy at least 8 hours every day.
Indicator 1. Applied knowledge of content within and across curriculum
teaching areas.
Annotations
I integrate the subject health in my lesson by helping the students practice
healthy habits.

Health:
Practices health habits to achieve holistic health (H7GD-1c-15)

b. prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase
c. metaphase, telophase, anaphase, prophase
d. telophase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase
3. Which of the following statements about mitosis is true?
a. The centromere of the chromosomes separates during metaphase
b. The chromatid number in a daughter cell is the same as the chromatid number in the parent cell
c. The chromosome number in a daughter cell is the same as the chromatid number in the parent cell.
d. The chromosome number in a daughter cell is the same number as the chromosome number in the parent cell.
4. In human, mitosis is important because it helps in the
a. formation of sex cells
b. death of unnecessary cells
c. growth and repair of tissues
d. maintains healthy number of sex cells.
5. Why are the resulting daughter cell is identical?
a. because the cell copies or replicates its chromosome before it splits into two daughter cells
b. because the chromosomes move and align before it splits into two daughter cells.
c. because the chromosomes contains two identical sister chromatids.
d. because the chromosomes the spindle fibers dissolve and disappear.
