Introductory Message

For the facilitator:

Welcome to the TLE Grade 8 Module on Electronic Products Assembly and

Servicing (EPAS)!

This Self- Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and

reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-In-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin in partnership with the Local Government of Pasig through its mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners into guided and
independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims
to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs namely:
Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking and Character while
taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the module:

Notes to the Teacher

This contains helpful tips or strategies that
will help you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to
manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist the
learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
For the learner:

Welcome to the TLE Grade 8 Module on Electronic Products Assembly &

Servicing (EPAS)!

This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You
will be enabled to process the contents of the learning material while being an active
learner.

This module has the following parts and corresponding icons:

Expectation - These are what you will be able to know after

completing the lessons in the module

Pre-test - This will measure your prior knowledge and the

concepts to be mastered throughout the lesson.

Recap - This section will measure what learnings and skills

that you understand from the previous lesson.

Lesson- This section will discuss the topic for this module.

Activities - This is a set of activities you will perform.

Wrap Up- This section summarizes the concepts and

applications of the lessons.
Valuing-this part will check the integration of values in the
learning competency.

Post-test - This will measure how much you have learned from
the entire module.
EXPECTATIONS

In this lesson, the students shall be able to perform the following:

1. Identify the schematic symbols of commonly used electronic components.
2. Recognize and label the symbols in a schematic diagram.
3. Understand how the symbols are connected in a circuit.
4. Interpret a schematic diagram.

PRETEST

Direction: Name each schematic symbol on the space provided in each item.

RECAP

Direction: Read each item carefully. Write “TRUE” if the statement is correct. Write
the term to be replaced on the underlined word if the statement is incorrect.

________________1. Various types of electrical diagrams are used to represent a

certain circuit.

________________2. Technical drawings helps in understanding connections between

components.
________________3. Block diagram is used to show the actual image of the
components.
________________4. Block diagram uses boxes and arrows to show the flow of the
circuit.
________________5. The boxes in a block diagram are important point of interest in
the system from input to storage.

LESSON

SCHEMATIC SYMBOLS

To understand the functionality of a circuit, a technician should be

knowledgeable of reading schematic diagrams. As with out previous lesson, a
schematic diagram is a detailed illustration of how each electronic component is
connected in a circuit. It can be used for troubleshooting any device.

Thus, the knowledge of each symbols assigned to an electronic component is

a very important skill in troubleshooting. A technician may refer to a diagram on
how the components should be attached looking on its terminal connections. The
following are some of the few electronic components used in common circuits:

or or

Resistor Variable Resistor Battery

Transformer

Standard Capacitor Polarized Capacitor Ground

Inductor Polarized Inductor Switch

Standard Diode Light Emitting Diode Zener Diode IC

Memorizing the schematic symbols is necessary to fully understand a

diagram. Awareness of the polarities (positive and negative terminals) of electronic
components when draw as symbols helps in connecting appropriate terminals.
Damage on the device might happen if components are improperly connected
because polarities are not observed. Look at the diagram below:

Circuits Tune, “12v Regulated Power Supply Diagram,” Accessed August 17, 2020. http://www.circuitstune.com/2011/12/12v-power-supply-circuit-diagram.html

This is a schematic diagram of a 12V regulated power supply unit. Let us try
to identify the components starting from the left part of the diagram.

A. Transformer - a symbol of two inductors facing each other separated by two or

three lines. The coil on the left side is considered as the primary coil and on the
right is secondary conductor. Primary coil receives voltage from an outlet. In
between the coils the voltage is being lowered down. Then, the secondary coil
forwards the voltage to the next component. The positive terminal on top and the
ground at the bottom.

Primary Coil (230V) Secondary Coil (12V)

B. Diodes - when 4 diodes are used it is considered as “Bridge Rectifier.” It has a

very strict positioning of its polarities. Notice that they are arranged in pair. Two
diodes with their negative terminals are on the positive line of the circuit and the
other pair with their positive terminals on the ground. The bridge rectifiers
converts the 12 ACV from the transformer into 12DCV passing it to the next
component.
C. Capacitor - a polarized capacitor is on the diagram where the positive terminal
goes to the transistor and it’s negative terminal on the ground.

D. Transistor - it sometimes drawn in this manner where the base is the labeled as
common which is connected to the ground. In as the emitter, and out is the
connector.

E. Capacitor - a polarized capacitor again. Positive terminal above and negative

terminal below.

ACTIVITIES

Part I: Label the schematic diagram of a blinker by writing the letters assigned for
each symbol. If component is repeated, place a number after the letter (Ex. C1, C2,
C3 - symbols drawn from left to right)

Battery LED Resistor Capacitor Transistor

9V L1 - L2 R1 - R4 C1 - C2 Q1 - Q2

Part II: Practice labeling the parts again here in this speech amplifier circuit.
