Get a ruler, marking tools, and scissors. Make a triangle and
trapezoid.

1. For triangle, get the measurement of the base.

2. For trapezoid, get the measurement of the two bases.
3. Fold the triangle/trapezoid into half. It should be parallel to the
base. It should be look like this,
4. Get the measurement of the half of it.
5. Compare the bases with regards to the bases of the
triangle/trapezoid.
Key:
Triangle: To get the measurement of the half of it (Midline), divide
the measurement of base into two.
Trapezoid: To get the measurement of the Midline, add the measure
of the two bases then divide it to two.

TRAPEZOID

A trapezoid is a quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides.

Given that MATH is a trapezoid, the following definitions can

be stated:
 MA and HT are parallel sides (bases) while MH and AT
are the non-parallel sides (legs) of MATH
 ∠ M ,∠ A ,∠ T ,and ∠ H are the base angles.
 If the legs of a trapezoid are congruent, then the trapezoid is
isosceles.
 Every trapezoid has two pairs of base angles.
The properties of a trapezoid can be best presented using the
following theorems:
Theorem #1: A pair of one upper base angle and one lower base
angle with a leg as their common sides are supplementary.
Theorem #2: The base angles of an isosceles trapezoid are
congruent.
Theorem #3: The diagonals of an isosceles trapezoid are congruent.
Theorem #4: The median of a trapezoid is parallel to the bases, and
its length is equal to half the sum of the lengths of the bases.
D. Developing Mastery (Explain)
Examples:
1. ▱ MATH is a trapezoid with MA and HT as bases. If
∠ H=76 ° ,then A=?
2. ▱ MATH is a trapezoid with MA and HT as bases. If
∠ A=133° and ∠T =(6 x−1)° . What is the value of x ?
Example:
1. ▱ MATH is an isosceles trapezoid. If ∠ H=65° , then ∠ T =?
2. ▱ MATH is an isosceles trapezoid. If ∠ HMA=115 ° and
∠ MAT =(15 x+ 10)° . What is the value of x ?

Example:
1. ▱ MATH is a trapezoid is an isosceles trapezoid. If MT =12 cm ,
then AH =?
2. ▱ MATH is a trapezoid is an isosceles trapezoid. If
AH =(2 x +7)cmand MT =( 3 x−3 ) cm . What is the value of x ?
Example:
1. ▱ MATH is a trapezoid with EI as median. If AT =14 cm ,
MH =20 cm then EI =?
2. ▱ MATH is a trapezoid with EI as median. If AT =(5 x−14 )cm ,
MH =( 3 x+ 8 ) cm then EI =25 cm. What is the value of x ?
