NUMBERS

Second Semester
I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
a.) identify the ratio of 2 given numbers;
b.) show appreciation to the importance of visualizing ratio of 2 given numbers by being aware of
the examples on our surroundings and;
c.) arrange the following ratios in 3 different forms (Ordered pair, fraction form and colon form).

II. Subject Matter:

a. Topic: Visualizing the ratio of 2 given numbers.
b. References: K to 12 Grade 5 Curriculum Guide, Learners Module Math Grade 5: M5NS-
IIh122 pg. 158
MISOSA Gr. 5 Module – Visualization of Ratio

Materials: PowerPoint Presentation, laptop, activity sheets, other instructional materials

III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities:

• Prayer: The teacher will ask one student to lead the prayer.
God, true source of life and wisdom, give us a keen sense of understanding, a retentive
memory, and the capacity to grasp things correctly. Grant us the grace to accurate in our
expositions and the skills to express ourselves with thoroughness and with clarity. Be with
us at the start of our work, guide its progress and bring it to completion. Grant it through
Christ our Lord
Amen.
• Greetings: The teacher will greet his students with enthusiasm and ask about their day.
• Checking of attendance: The teacher will inquire the group leaders whether their members
are present.

B. Review:

The teacher will conduct a review about fractions, and they will distinguish each fraction
whether they are proper, improper or mixed fractions. The teacher will use flashcards in
each fraction.
Examples:
2 7 8 7 12
3 4
9 8 11 8 10
C. Motivation:
The teacher will conduct a game and the game is connected to the main discussion which
is all about ratio.
Procedures:
❖ The teacher will pick 3 students as representative for the activity.
❖ Each representative will have 1 basket and 2 fruits (apple and lemon) each fruit has
plenty of pieces.
❖ The game will test the speed of each of the representative by separating the apples and
lemons with accordance to what the teacher is saying.
For example:
Bring 5 lemons and 3 apples out of the basket!
❖ The student who completed the task with speed wins.

D. Discussion:

Let us have a new learning!

Let us talk about ratio

❖ What is a RATIO?

• Is the comparison of two different things or numbers.

• A relationship between numbers by division
Let us first have the illustration to widen our understanding about what RATIO is.

Question: Two trays of egg contain 12 eggs. What is the relationship of the trays of
eggs to the number of eggs?

Answer: Trays of egg is to number of eggs

Therefore the ratio is:

RATIO
2 trays of egg is to 12
eggs.

Now, How can we write this in number form?

❖ A RATIO can be written in 3 ways. It is by using ORDERED PAIR, FRACTION

FORM and COLON FORM.

❖ An ORDERED PAIR uses comma to indicate the relationship of two numbers and to
separate them.

For example:
2,8 5,3 4,6 10,7 8,4

❖ FRACTION FORM is simply a ratio that is written in fraction form.

As for the example of the given above:
2 5 4 10 8
8 3 6 7 4

❖ A COLON FORM is simply a ratio that uses colon in between to separate 2 numbers.
As for the example of the given above:
2:8 5:3 4:6 10:7 8:4

Let us go back to the illustration of a 2 egg trays with 12 eggs in it.

If we will write it in an ORDERED PAIR, it should be something like this:

ORDERED PAIR
2, 12
If we will write it using FRACTION FORM, it should be something like this:

FRACTION FORM
𝟐
𝟏𝟐

If we will write it using a COLON FORM, it should be something like this:

COLON FORM
2:12

QUESTION:
Can we write the number of eggs to the trays of eggs in a ratio?

The answer is Yes.

❖ The RATIO you can form is:

12 eggs is to 2 trays of egg.

❖ In an ORDERED PAIR,
12, 2
❖ In a FRACTION FORM,
𝟏𝟐
𝟐
❖ In a COLON FORM,

12:2

Note: You will just basically switch the 2 numbers.

E. Generalization
What is a ratio?
How should we write ratio?
What are the other ways of writing a ratio?
Lead the pupils to generalize as follows.
- A ratio is the comparison of two different things or numbers. Therefore, we are using
2 numbers in a ratio to compare.
- We are writing ratio by indicating 2 numbers in a form, what forms are we using?
- The other ways of writing ratio are by Ordered Pair, Fraction Form and Colon Form.

F. Application

The teacher will group the students into 5

The teacher will show picture of this:

The teacher will ask questions to students (1 question per group) and they will answer it with the
form of Ordered pair, Fraction Form and Colon form.
1. What is the ratio of horses to goat?
2. What is the ratio of ducklings to cows?
3. What is the ratio of chicken to ducks?
4. What is the ratio of man to animals?
5. What is the ratio of pig to cows?

IV. EVALUATION:
A. Identify whether the given ratio is in Ordered pair, Fraction Form or Colon Form
1. 11:5 _______________
2. 3,8 ________________
3. 4,2 __________________
𝟏𝟐
4. __________________
𝟐
𝟏
5. ___________________
𝟗

B. Express the following ratios to Ordered Pair, Fraction Form and Colon Form.

1. 12 to 8
2. 10 to 46
3. 15 to 10
4. 45 to 32
5. 23 to 11

V. ASSIGNMENT
For a fruit punch I need 100 fruits. 12 apples, 15 oranges,
15 bananas, 40 pineapples and the rest mangos.
The ratio apples to bananas is _________________
The ratio oranges to mangos is ________________
The ratio pineapples to bananas is ________________
The ratio apples to the total fruits is ______________
The ratio mangos to the total fruits is _______________
The ratio apples and oranges to the total fruits is ______________
