CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background
Vandalism is an act that disturbs or damages various physical and artificial objects, both
private property and facilities or public property. As stated by Marshall, Clinard (1975:208),
vandalism can be interpreted as the intentional and continuous destruction of public property,
where vandalism is generally seen in property and objects or objects rather than humans. Then
Lase (2003) classifies the behavioral aspects of vandalism which consist of graffiti, cutting,
plucking, taking, and destroying.

The researcher saw that the vandalism behavior was also carried out by students during
learning hours and during recess. Participants who perform this behavior are not only male
students but female students are also seen doing this. Students openly scribble on tables and
chairs in front of the teacher who is explaining the learning material. This indicates that
participants have considered the behavior as a normal behavior and not disturbing. Teachers as
teachers and educators in the class are also less attitude in dealing with these behaviors, there
is a lack of efforts made by teachers to overcome these behaviors.

1.2 Problem
Vandalism behavior will certainly be difficult to separate from students because it has
been done either spontaneously or intentionally. Therefore it is necessary to have a solution
that can overcome the problems that occur in the class. The solution that is sought must be
able to eliminate or be able to change this attitude and direct it to something more positive and
useful.

From the explanation of the background and the problem, the researcher was
interested in conducting research on this behavior with the title; "The behavior of students
crossing out the class table".

1.3 Hipotesa
To achieve the expected research objectives, then based on the background of the researchers
formulate several problem formulations as follows:

1. Have you ever crossed out the class table ?

2. Why did you cross out the class table ?
3. What do you think when you see a lot of graffiti on the class table ?
4. What is the punishment for students who cross out the class table ?
5. What are the suggestions so that students do not cross out the class table ?

CHAPTER II
DISCUSSION

2.1 The Method Of Data Collection

The author collects data by conducting interviews with students, especially students of
Smkn 4 Tangerang City. The author gives a question related to the behavior of crossing out class
desks . the author recorded a voice when the interview began to facilitate data collection.

After the author has collected data, the writer can conclude what causes the behavior of
vandalism in the school to occur. And what should be done in order to change that attitude and
lead to something more positive.

2.2 Discussion And Analysis Of The Data

Based on the Big Indonesian Dictionary (2001, p. 778), it is explained about the
definition of vandalism, vandalism is the act of destroying and destroying works of art and
other valuables (natural beauty and so on), or violent and violent destruction.

The thing that students do, namely doodling is included in the behavior of vandalism,
because the actions that have been carried out ultimately damage the beauty of the item. This
becomes a habit also in students if they do not focus on learning or there is no learning in class,
they assume that this is a behavior that is usually done and does not interfere.

Any student who destroys, disturbs, or destroys school property is expected to make
compensation to the center. Students may also be asked to cooperate and work with the
maintenance department to help clean up any damage made by students.

Therefore, students need to be directed from an early age, so that the vandalism
behavior they do in class does not become negative behavior in themselves and is not carried
over into the scope of the community. There needs to be a way to help students channel their
behavior so that it doesn't become negative behavior on them.

CHAPTER III
CONCLUSION

In the research that we have done on several students of SMKN 4 Kota Tangerang. Get
the following results:

 Of the eight students who were interviewed, there were six students who crossed out
the classroom table behavior.
 They admitted that they did this because there was no activity and they were bored
when they were in class.
 Three of them admitted that they were normal with the doodles on the class table, the
other five students were disturbed by the scribbles on the class table.
 Some of them were punished and some were only given a warning by their teacher. The
punishment given to students who violate the rules is to come to the front of the class
and sing a song.
 They suggested that no more students would cross out on the table by doing more
positive activities, and if they wanted to cross out, they should only cross out on the
very back of the book.

RECOMENDATION

Vandalism behavior has become a habit in students if they do not focus on learning or
there is no learning in class. In addition, the vandalism behavior interferes with the beauty or
cleanliness of the school environment, especially the classroom environment. It also shows that
students lack an attitude of responsibility and care in maintaining the beauty, discipline and
tidiness of the environment. Therefore, it is necessary to find a solution that can overcome the
problems that occur in the class. The solutions that are sought must be able to eliminate or be
able to change these attitudes and lead to more positive and useful things.

Researchers try to take advantage of the habits of students, namely the behavior of
vandalism that exists in these students by directing students to make posters in the tasks given
by the teacher. Poster media is one way that can be used to reduce vandalism behavior.
Through the use of poster media, students can divert their attention from using walls, tables,
and chairs to draw and scribble on things that are not supposed to be more useful.

This problem is related to the self-development of each student which must be directed
and developed again according to his own interests and talents. Because then what is owned by
each student can be developed which will certainly be useful in his life.
