AUDIO DRAMA
Unit 10: Engaging with an audience in Creative Media Production

Launch Date: 04/01/24

End Date: 08/02/24
PROJECT AIM:
To plan, produce and present an original Audio Drama.

1
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Audio Drama is an essential creative practice that allows both creatives and listeners the chance to
experience diverse stories and new worlds. In this project you will create an original Audio Drama that
relates to and engages with its intended audience. You will develop your knowledge of scriptwriting and
audio production techniques, as well as understanding target audiences. This is an individual project, and
all learners are expected to follow the brief and create an original Audio Drama.

WHAT ARE YOU BEING ASKED TO DO?

You must individually plan, produce, and present an original Audio Drama. The duration of the drama
must be between 4-7 minutes. You will produce a formatted script and undertake all sound recording
responsibilities and considerations.

Each learner will produce their own Audio Drama, but you may help each other out for voice acting. You
will need to research Audio Drama and build your own ideas around the conventions used in this medium.
You will be responsible for planning and recording all audio required. You will need to edit your audio
together to create an original drama. Each drama will be presented to the group in a Screening Event at
the end of the project.

Your personal journey needs to be clearly documented and evidenced from start to finish using an online
journal. This journal will be used to assess you in FOUR areas of criteria: Research, Planning and
Production, Practical Skills and Problem Solving. You must provide evidence for all areas of this criteria in
your journal and ensure that your journal is easy to navigate and is accessible for your tutors and external
examiners. Please use the online journal template provided to support and guide your online journal.

TASK LIST

1) An Original Audio Drama Script – You will evidence your practical skills by writing and
formatting a 4–7-minute script for an original audio drama. DEADLINE: Tuesday 23rd January
@4:30pm

2) Planning and Pre-production - You will provide physical and digital evidence for planning and
production by completing industry standard Pre-Production paperwork, whilst providing
continuous evaluation against your production aims and ambitions. DEADLINE: Thursday 8th
February 2024 @4:30pm

3) Audio Drama and Print poster (PIC) Production Information Card - You will evidence your
presentation skills by producing a 4-7 min Audio drama based off your own script and create
an A4 Production Information Card to support your audio drama. You will also upload your final
products to the Practical Skills section of your online journal. DEADLINE: Thursday 1st February
2024 @4:30pm

4) Online Journal – You will undergo and document specific Research to support your audio drama
idea. You will also evidence your Problem-Solving skills in a final evaluation. DEADLINE:
Thursday 8th February 2024 @ 4:30pm

TASK 1 – ORIGINAL AUDIO DRAMA SCRIPT

You will write an original Audio Drama script that follows industry formatting standards. Your Drama
should be between 4-7 minutes in duration and your script should reflect this.

The script can be based on any original idea and take place in any story environment. However, it must
include several characters and allow you to explore the production of Audio Dramas and push your
technical abilities in this medium.

All drafts and evidence of script development should be evidenced in the practical skills section of your
online journal as well as any evidence from workshops and experimentation. You should also support this
evidence by linking all evidence with your own idea development.

Final scripts must be submitted to assignments and a copy of your final script must be provided alongside
your final products.

You must produce a range of evidence that supports the development of ideas and your understanding of
creating an Original Audio Drama for a selected audience. Your evidence should include a selection of the
following relevant paperwork:

Your evidence must also demonstrate how the final script allows you to plan and produce a final Audio
Drama, highlighting techniques, organisational skills and audience awareness that connects to your
production.

You should upload a copy of each document to the Planning and production section of your Online Journal
along with relevant context and evaluation to support the documentation included.

TASK 4 - Online Journal

You must use your online journal as a way to present, document and evidence the work you do throughout
the project. There are some areas of your project that can only be evidenced using your online journal.
The following content outlines the criteria that will be assessed primarily from your online journal.

1) RESEARCH - You will be expected to undertake in-depth and thorough research into the production
of Audio Dramas. You should aim to demonstrate your understanding of the production processes
as well as chosen audiences. Connecting your own ideas to a chosen audience is vital in
demonstrating your knowledge of meeting a target audience. This research should provide you
with the knowledge to link production to audience.

You should also breakdown your script to allow you to understand the elements and techniques
required to record all audio needed to tell your story. You should spend time exploring techniques
used to create and record sounds.

Your online journal should include a wide range of relevant research to support the production of
your project. You should have evidence of primary and secondary research in the following areas:
Content, Market and Production.

2) PROBLEM SOLVING –Upon completion of your project, you will write a 500-word evaluation
reflecting and evaluating the project as a whole.

Your evaluation should outline a range of different problems you encountered during your project
and explain how you overcame them. You should aim to include at least two reflection points for
each key stage of production: Pre-production, Production and Postproduction.

For each problem you should outline:
