"Wait, you dropped your..." His eyes are pulled from the ignition key when he looks down to
see what she's bending down to pick up. Shit... Mike's money clip. He can't say he didn't feel
guilty about it because he did but his reason for it outweighed his guilt. "Why do you have
this?"

He looks away, not wanting to look her in the eye when he explains, "If I'm gonna be accused
of being a thief I might as well get something out of it." And she can see the hurt on his face
and hear it in his voice, her father's harsh words earlier cutting him… deep.

He's just like his father

"You're just giving them ammunition,” she says looking at him in disbelief.

He turns to look at her, "Ammunition for what, Kie!?" He didn't really need to ask, knew
what she meant, ammunition to keep her away from him, for her parents to not want the two
of them... together. "They're already against me, so who cares." Truth is, he does... care.

"They didn't have a reason, you're giving them a reason!" She's trying everything she can to
get through to him by pressing the issue.

"Who cares, Kie!"

"I do! I care!" She yells, fighting the urge to slap him for being so stupid to knowingly decide
to prove her father right when he was so very wrong.

"We don't have time for this, get on!" She's not budging and his impatience with her grows,
"Get on the bike, Kie."

"No." She counters, crossing her arms whilst shooting daggers with her eyes at him and he
notices but that doesn't deter him from his current mission of getting the two of them out of
there.

"Don't make me get off this bike, Kiara. I'm serious." He's really losing his patience with her
now, not that he's ever been known to have much of it to begin with.

"Whatever..." She says as she turns and begins walking away from him, not really knowing
where she is going but that doesn't seem to matter.

"Fine." He quips as he swings his leg over the bike and storms after her, grabbing her forearm
from behind with his left hand. As he moves in front of her he bends over, quickly sliding his
hand between her legs to firmly wrap his right arm around her left leg, hoisting her up and
over his shoulder.

"Stop it, JJ... put me down! I'm not going anywhere with you!" She screams, trying to squirm
free but his hold on her is firm, unrelenting. She can imagine the tight lipped smirk he's likely
sporting on his face and she would be correct in that assumption.
He laughs, "Well, that's just too damn bad... You're coming with me whether you like it or
not."

As they make their way back to JJ's bike, not being able to break free from his grasp she
decides to use her words once again, "You know, you are so frustrating, do you know that!?
You've spent so much time pushing me away since we've been back and now you won't leave
me alone! What happened to the JJ Maybank I fell for on Poguelandia, huh?"

He abruptly stops in his tracks but keeps his hold on her, after a short pause he speaks, "What
did you say?"

"Just put me down, Jayj."

"No. What did you say? You... fell for me?" He couldn't have heard her right, right?

Kiara sighs, "Yes...figured that was pretty obvious at this point." She wishes she could see his
face, at least that way she could attempt to read his reaction but instead all she has to go on is
the extremely tense body currently unmoving underneath her. "Jayj?"

He clears his throat as she feels his hold on her lessen and he bends over placing her feet
firmly back on the ground before him. He stays crouched down for a moment, removing his
hat, running his hand through his hair before placing his hat back on his head and standing
up.

"Why?" It's a fair question in his mind's eye because he's a loser with no parents, no job and
nothing to offer her. Hadn't she heard him earlier? Stubborn just like him. Opposites attract so
how did this even happen he asks himself as if he hasn't been pining for the girl for most of
his adolescent life.

"Are you gonna tell me that you didn't notice the two of us... getting... closer? On the island.”

"I mean... that was different." He replies, waving off her question like it has no merit to the
current conversation.

"Different how?"

"Different like... everybody was paired off... so yeah I noticed that we spent more time
together than usual but the same can be said for Pope and Cleo. But we aren't there anymore.
We're back to reality, Kie."

“Yeah… maybe… but I don’t recall seeing Pope and Cleo sleeping in as close proximity as
us, I don’t recall him not falling asleep until she was, I don’t recall him nonchalantly brushing
his hand or arm against her at night… no… that was all you… with me.”

He’s taken aback by the admission. How did she even know that he stayed awake every night
until she had drifted off? And sure he knew she would feel his touch but didn’t know how
unbelievably obvious he was about it.

When the quiet between them extends too long she continues, “So you have no feelings for
me... none whatsoever?"
"I didn't say that... I just... did you not see the look on Pope's face when he interrupted us on
the boat?"

"He's past what happened between us, J!"

"You sure about that?! Because that did not look like a guy who's over getting his heart
ripped out of his chest! And there I am, inches away from kissing his ex." He’s spiraling fast
and she’ll do just about anything to quiet the voices in his head.

"I'll talk to him."

"No... I already did and he didn't seem too happy about it and God... I don't blame him... I
mean he was never suppose to be in the middle of this.”

"In the middle of what?"

"In the middle of us, Kiara! It wasn't suppose to happen this way. Hell… I never imagined it
would ever happen at all.”

"Well it’s too late, J… we can’t go back and change anything. All we can do is move forward
and I know you’re scared… I am too but I need you to hear me when I say this… I… I love
you.”

When he looks up from the ground and their eyes meet, he can't help stepping forward,
grabbing her face and pulling her lips to his in one quick motion. It completely catches her
off guard but she's quick to wrap her hands around his torso. The kiss, starting off soft and
sweet eventually becomes well… lustful. Hands roaming each other’s bodies and he wishes
they were in a more private setting.

They're pulled apart when a flashlight shines in their direction and a police officer is hollering
at them to stay where they are. Clearly the police were still doing their post train robbery
investigation.

"Shit... Kie, we gotta go!" JJ breathes as he grabs her hand and they race the six remaining
feet to the bike, jumping on quickly and taking off just barely evading the officer who for
some odd reason but thankfully never reached for his weapon.

Five minutes later he’s pulling over, turning off the bike. Her arms stay glued around him as
she turns her head resting it between his shoulders. She’s missed his smell and doesn’t want
to move from her current position anytime soon.

“I’m sorry, Kie. I’m sorry for taking the money clip and I’m sorry for trying to push you
away. Everything’s so fucked up. I feel like I’m drowning and I don’t want to take you under
with me.”

“Whatever happens…”

He doesn’t let her finish, interrupting her quickly, “We’ll handle it together?”
Her arms squeeze a little tighter around him when she answers, “Like we always do. Like we
always will.”

“You know I love you too, right?” He whispers over his shoulder after a deep steadying
breath.

He can’t see her but can feel her smile against his back when she says, “I know, Jayj… I
know.”
