“Slapped Across the Face”

Learn about a popular internet phrase. Can you relate to the scenarios given?

Did you get “slapped across the face” today?

When talking about face, a phrase that means “losing face” must be mentioned: getting “slapped across the face”.
In recent years, because people typically spend a lot of time chatting online, ..
.. and because young people are always confident and optimistic, they are often “slapped across the face” by life, ..
.. and this phrase has started to become popular.
For example, someone thought that this week’s test was really easy, so he confidently tells all his friends, ..
.. “This test was so easy. I’ll for sure get full marks!”
Then when the scores come out, it turns out that he didn’t even pass.
At this moment he would feel that he had lost face, because he was “slapped across the face” by the test.
Here’s another example. A person always buys very strange gifts for his girlfriend, and this makes her very displeased.
Recently he bought his girlfriend another gift — a stick of blue lipstick.
He thought that his girlfriend generally really liked the color blue, so he couldn’t go wrong with blue lipstick!
So, when he gave the lipstick to his girlfriend, how do you think that went?
That’s right, he was “slapped across the face” once again!
People often say: It’s easy to be born, and it’s easy to be alive, but life is hard.
We’re always so confident, yet we always get “slapped across the face” by life.
But, isn’t that life?
