Dear Parents, Students, Teachers and Well-Wishers,

It is indeed an honour and a source of great pride for me to extend my heartfelt message for the annual

heart swells with joy witnessing the remarkable progress and achievements of our beloved school.

Education, in its true essence, extends beyond the confines of textbooks and classrooms. At
Dhanvallabh English High School, we embrace this philosophy wholeheartedly. Our commitment goes
beyond imparting academic knowledge; we strive to instill essential humanitarian values in our
students. Values such as wisdom, compassion, courage, humility, integrity, and reliability are the
cornerstones of the education we provide.

In our pursuit of excellence, we share a common vision with you – that of holistic education for your
child. We believe in nurturing well-rounded individuals who not only excel academically but also
possess a rich tapestry of co-curricular achievements, sportsmanship, and essential life skills. Our goal is
to equip each student with the tools they need to navigate the complexities of the world with
confidence and integrity.

I extend my warmest wishes to the entire Dhanvallabh English High School community – the dedicated

Secretary’s Desk

Dear Parents, Students, and Esteemed Readers,

As we delve into another edition of our school magazine, it is our pleasure to share insights on crucial
aspects that play a pivotal role in the journey of our students: peer pressure, fashion, academic pursuits,
and the delicate balance required to nurture a well-rounded individual.
Balancing Academics and Extracurricular Activities: Achieving a harmonious equilibrium between
academic commitments and extracurricular pursuits is a shared responsibility. We advocate for a
holistic approach to education, acknowledging that a well-rounded individual emerges from a balance
between intellectual growth and the development of diverse talents and skills. Teachers and support
staff are here to guide students in managing their time effectively, ensuring a fulfilling educational
journey.
Time Management and Parental Expectations: Effective time management is a skill that serves
students well throughout their lives. We encourage students to communicate openly with their parents
about their academic and extracurricular commitments. It's crucial for parents to support their
children's endeavours while fostering realistic expectations. Let us collectively promote an
environment where the pursuit of excellence is tempered with an understanding that each child has
unique strengths and challenges.
Individual Learning: A Lifelong Process: Learning is a lifelong journey, and comparison between
individuals can hinder personal growth. Our school is committed to embracing various teaching
methods that cater to the dynamic needs of our changing world. We encourage a mindset that values
progress over perfection and recognizes that each student's journey is unique.
In closing, our school is dedicated to the total performance of every child, fostering an environment that
adapts to the evolving landscape of education. Together, let us continue to nurture the potential within
each student, guiding them toward a future of limitless possibilities.
Adjustments to Studies: Recognizing the importance of maintaining a balance between academic
commitments and extracurricular activities, we understand that participating in the competition may
require some adjustments in your child's study routine. We encourage a proactive approach to manage
their time effectively, ensuring that both academic responsibilities and preparation for the competition
are met.

Vice-Principal’s Desk

I wanted to take a moment to share some thoughts and reflections regarding our children and their
unique journey.
It's only natural for us, as parents, to be invested in the success and well-being of our children. However,
I believe it's important to recognize and celebrate the individuality of each child. Every child has their
own set of strengths, challenges, and passions, and comparing them to others may inadvertently create
unnecessary pressure and hinder their personal growth.
Excessive expectations can sometimes lead to feelings of failure and resentment. It's crucial for us to
appreciate that each child follows their own timeline of development and learning. Embracing this
uniqueness not only fosters a positive environment but also allows our children to discover and pursue
their interests at their own pace.
Life is a journey filled with myriad experiences, both big and small. As parents, let's not lose sight of the
joy in witnessing our children's small triumphs and the beauty in the diversity of their interests. By
trusting both our children and ourselves, we can create an atmosphere of support and encouragement.
Acknowledging and validating our children's emotions is an essential aspect of nurturing their well-
being. It's okay for them to experience a range of feelings, and by being open to their emotions, we can
help them navigate challenges with resilience and confidence.
Being open to possibilities means allowing our children the freedom to explore various interests and
discover their passions. This openness not only enriches their lives but also allows them to develop a
sense of self and purpose.
In conclusion, let's strive to foster an environment that encourages growth, individuality, and mutual
trust. By doing so, we can create a space where our children feel supported and empowered to navigate
life's journey with confidence and enthusiasm.

Co-ordinators’s Desk

I am delighted to take a moment to express my heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional educational
journey that our school provides. While academic excellence remains a primary focus, it is inspiring to
witness the school's dedication to preparing students for the challenges that lie ahead and fostering a
sense of social responsibility.

The school's tireless efforts to instill values, seamlessly blending academics with extracurricular
activities, deserve commendation. It is heartening to be part of an institution that not only embraces
modern technology but also encourages a spirit of experimentation, providing us with a conducive work
environment.

I feel privileged for the opportunity to share these thoughts and take pride in our school's well-earned
reputation. The untiring efforts invested in shaping it into an institution of great distinction are truly
commendable.

However, it is crucial for all of us, as parents, to play an active role in supporting the school's mission. By
speaking positively about the school and its dedicated teachers in the presence of our children, we
contribute significantly to their overall growth. Respecting the educational institute and refraining from
any negative commentary is paramount for fostering a healthy and supportive learning environment.

Let's continue to work hand in hand to ensure our school remains a beacon of quality education and
character development.

Dear Readers,
“Education is the key that unlocks the golden door to freedom.” As rightly said by George Washington
Carver. We at DEHS believe that education isn’t just about learning, reading and writing at school.
Instead, formal education is about gaining the knowledge and the skills needed to become a better
person and create a better society to live in.
The shift to digital learning forced a re-evaluation of teaching methods and highlighted the importance
of adaptability. DEHS recognizes the lasting influence of this period on approach to education and daily
life. By emphasizing the goal of creating better individuals who contribute to a better society, we are not
just imparting knowledge but also instilling a sense of responsibility and purpose in our students.
Celebrating the successes and joys of another academic year is a wonderful reflection of the positive
and vibrant learning environment at DEHS. The emphasis on the enthusiasm of the young learners, their
inquisitive minds, and their eagerness to explore new things is heartening. It highlights the importance
of fostering a love for learning from an early age.
The magazine serving as a showcase of the students' hard work, including paintings, sketches, and
writings, is a testament to their dedication and commitment throughout the year. It's not just about
academic achievements but also about nurturing creativity and expression, showcasing a holistic
approach to education.
The recognition of the collaborative efforts of the Vice-Principal and teachers underscores the
importance of a dedicated and passionate faculty. Their commitment to imparting education in an
engaging and enjoyable manner contributes significantly to the overall learning experience of the
students.
The idea that learning should not be confined to four walls but should extend to fun and a connection
with nature is progressive. It aligns with modern educational philosophies that emphasize experiential
learning and the importance of a well-rounded education that goes beyond traditional academic
subjects.
Overall, the magazine reflects a school environment
that values not only academic excellence but also the
overall development and well-being of its students.
It's a testament to the commitment of the school
towards creating a positive and enriching learning
experience for the young minds under its care.

MATH IS A CHALLENGE

The more I Try,

The more I cry,
Everyone says Try, Try and Try.
I practice Math with my heart and soul,
Yet I'm unable to achieve my goal.
I never got marks in math,
And always had that lazy jazz.
Inspite of my great endeavour,
Fate was never in my favour.
I am candid, so I am ready to confess,
In examination, I always created a mess.
All the answers; I just guessed,
Ultimately, marks I got were quite less.
If I still do ample of its practice,
I know my fear will burn into ashes.
I'll definitely be able to achieve my goal,
Because in our life, Math plays a significant role.

SOCIAL STUDIES
Oh, Social Studies, what a subject you are,
Learning about the world, both near and far.
From ancient times to present day,
Exploring history in a fun and playful way.
History reveals our past grand tale,
Geography maps the world, never to fail.
Civics teaches us to be active and aware,
Economics shows how resources we share.
Discoveries and inventions are a part of its tale,
While math adds numbers, like a ship setting sail.
Together they dance, a melodious blend,
Exploring the past and numbers that never end.
Literature and arts are a harmony of words and rhyme,
Expressing emotions, painting pictures over time.
But Social Studies speaks of people and their voice,
Judiciary, a form of Government is a choice that.

EDUCATION AND THE ROLE IT PLAYS IN
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
"Wisdom comes not from age but from education and learning"-Anton Chekhov
Ignorance is the darkness of mind that can be conquered only through education
Learning is an integral part of our lives. Without it our lives can become stagnant. From time
immemorial acquiring knowledge and skills has made we humans to adapt to our constantly
changing environment. Had we been oblivious about things we would still be living in Stone
Age. Education is thus important for personal and social development. It is a tool that
transforms our lives. It guides us from the darkness of ignorance to the light of enlightenment.
Education instills confidence in us to face challenges and to overcome them to achieve our
goals. It empowers us to change our lives for the better. When we talk about how education can
change lives we are not just talking about schooling or formal education but also about holistic
approach of learning.
Education goes beyond institutional learning. It's the contribution of various forces that
eliminates our lack of knowledge and helps us in taking rational decisions. True education helps
us to understand that failures are just a stepping stones to success and not to be disappointed
with the hurdles we face in our journey towards success. Acquisition of education helps us to
remain positive in times of tribulations. Life is truly uncertain but through education and
training we can prepare ourselves to live our lives to best of our abilities. In today's scenario
when the world is facing some serious difficulties it is only through education that we together
can solve most of them as knowledge equips us with power to change the world. And if we
really want to make the world a better place we need to start from ourselves. Education signifies
that the true happiness and fulfillment of life can be
achieved when we go beyond ourselves and serve others
through our knowledge.
Importance of education in personal and social
development can be better understood by the following
quote from UNESCO.
"Education has a fundamental role to play in personal
and social development. It is not a miracle cure or a
magic formula opening the door to a world in which all
ideals will be attained. It is one of the principal means
available to foster a deeper and more harmonious form of
human development and thereby to reduce poverty,
exclusion, ignorance, oppression and war."
In the writings of Gandhiji, education draws out the best in an individual body, mind and spirit.
So learning continues as long as we live and it should make us better today than what we were
yesterday.

WOMEN AND SOCIETY

Women, the wealth of society, have contributed in every field, and thus made their country
proud. They are in front leading the country, making milestones and are a source of inspiration
for many.
‘Woman’, the word is termed after adding a prefix to the word ‘man’, means powerful and
stronger than men. They are considered to be tender, coy and gentle but are strong and
determined too. They are the supreme soul, filled with emotions and love. They therefore are
considered as the Queen of everyone’s heart.

When talk about the roles women perform, we think of them as multitasker as they are present
everywhere performing all kinds of roles be it a teacher, doctor, lawyer, business, managing a
company and what not. Taking care of their family to managing a company, she has shown a
tremendous growth.
Then why this inequality. At one moment we talk about women empowerment but at the same
time we are the ones who are pulling them backwards by the name of culture(Patriarchy). We
talk about equality but still are behind the race to reach to the finish line. Other nations are
promoting women and they already are doing wonders then why are we not ready to provide
them their own room to live their life freely.

The very lines of ‘SECOND SEX’, the bible of female literature marks:
‘Women cannot think themselves without men, but men can think themselves without women.’
However, they hold the equilibrium position and maintain the balance between the quo status for
they feel equally liberated as men. Though they have choices to wear, party out late, etc. but are
always a subject of society. They have to face dejection from their only family because of the
pressure they are subjected upon.

However, one fights for his/her own rights, so let’s stand and raise our voice for their rights. They
are not a subject of society’s criticism. They are the ones who have always worked for appraisals.
The truth is that we have to erase the so called term formed structurally ‘Discrimination’ and
fight for their dignity and self-respect. So let’s awaken our society together from their deep
slumbers for their equality and dignity without any condolences.

THE LORD OF ODISHA: JAGANNATH

Lord Jagannath is an incarnation of

Lord Vishnu. Jagannath is the
combination of two words Jagat and
Nath, Jagat meaning the universe and
Nath meaning Master therefore, the
word Jagannath literally means
Master of the universe. Lord
Jagannath is accompanied by his
siblings Balabhadra and Subhadra. In
Sanskrit the letter ‘Ja’ in Jagannath
means Jagannath , ‘Ga’ means
Balabhadra, ‘Nna’ means Subhadra
and ‘Tha’ means Sudarshan. The
statues of Jagannath and his siblings
are made from neem wood and these statues are replaced every 12 to 19 years and this
celebration is known as Nalakalebara. There is a Rath Yatra or Gundicha Yatra in the city
of Puri every year in the month of June and July. This is a festival of Odisha where Lord
Jagannath and his siblings Subhadra and Balabhadra are carried from Jagannath temple to
Gundicha temple.

Jagannath temple which is dedicated to Lord Jagannath is situated in Puri, Odisha.

Jagannath temple is a well known and one of the most prominent temple of India. This
temple was built by Ananta Varman Chodaganga Deva, the king of the Ganga dynasty in
the 12th century. It took a whopping three generations worth of time and effort to built this
impressive and glorious Jagannath temple. There are many astonishing facts and
mysteries of Jagannath temple like the chakra mystery. There is a Sudarshan chakra on top
of the temple. It weighs a lot and is still a mystery how a massive structure is placed on top
of this temple. It appears the same from every angle, the Jagannath flag is also one of the
mysteries of Jagannath temple. When the wind blows in one direction, the flag flutters in
the opposite direction. There is still no scientific explanation for this weird but amazing
occurrence, Jagannath temple does not have a shadow. Yes the shadow that are with us all
day but fail to cast on Jagannath temple. Did you know, Jagannath temple was invaded 18
times, as the temple has valuable treasures of ancient India. There are more than thirty
smaller temples, temples like Vimala and Narasimha are even older than the Jagannath
temple.

Jagannath temple built by Ananta Varman Chodaganga in Puri, Odisha is a magnificent

and glorious temple. It is the symbol of culture and religion in Odisha. This temple is
filled with mysteries. It is devoted to Lord Jagannath an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

EXAMS

Exams were first introduced to the world by Henry Fischel in 1913. These exams made
teachers give a clarity of how much the topic is understood to him/her. Exams were first
implemented in the schools and universities of China.
Have you ever thought of; Why are exams necessary?

Exams are designed to check the students’ knowledge and find out how much of the
knowledge they are grasping from their teachers. Slowly these exams got spread into the
world and majority nations adopted. Even our country implemented various competitive
exams like exams for Civil Services, Entrance exam, Competitive exam, Olympiad etc.
Exams have both advantages and dis-advantages:

Advantages: If a student scores good marks in the exams, that student becomes the
scholar of his/her school, everyone will talk about him/her. His/her good work will be the
top priority and this can even provide him/her a scholarship to shape his/her future.

Dis-advantages: It causes anxiety, comparison between students, stress etc. Before exams,
students or children were assessed through their caste, colour, height, religion and even
the work done by their parents, but after the exams, children are assessed by their
knowledge.

is the most hated and most shunned word for some students who never like to indulge in it
with pleasure until they have a charm of acquiring a degree. Otherwise, they compare it
with a nightmare but Exams give the path to achieve anything by just acquiring the
knowledge given by the teachers so it is rightly said, “The power of concentration is the
only key to the treasure-house of knowledge.”
