The Problem and its Background

Introduction

In the modern world, Educators agree that proficiency of English is the key to Academic
Performance of students. A person who does not know English may not have access to the world
known scientific and technological discoveries that are predominantly written in English .This
means that the Grade 10 Olive students need to be proficient to have a better grasp of knowledge
in Science and Mathematics.

English has been play a significant role in critical and analytical thinking required in
science and mathematics subjects when it comes to the Academic Performance of Grade 10 Olive.
Moreover the more English language they studied, the more prominent and effective their thinking
can be. Thus the students are more likely proficient and can perform well in their academics
subjects.

According to Department of Education (DEPED) the students proficiency in Science and

Mathematics has a relationship with English language. Majority of the students had not really
mastered the different learning areas in Mathematics. Again English has something to do with the
skill of learners.

However undeniably, in many lesson in Mathematics and Sciences, English is a good and
proper vital tool in comprehension, analysis, evaluation and interpretation for better results. It has
been claim that still a lot of students struggle in Science, Mathematics and English. This
phenomenon is true to Isabela National High School-Junior (INHS) students.

In the study they contend that science in all areas is not being mastered by the students.
These range from interpreting to analyzing scientific data. In Mathematics, students are poor in
solving or even interpreting and analyzing data. The students also weak in terms of equation and
manipulating numbers.

The study concludes that the students weaknesses in Science and Mathematics are
attributed to the students difficulty in English. As stated in the findings all these boils down to the
problem on comprehension leading the students not to understand what they are reading.

The researchers intend to help and provide alternative solution for the said problems.
Through the results, they can propose and initiate service trainings and seminars for teachers.
II. Research Question

1. What is the average grade of Grade 10 Olive in the three subjects?

- The Average grade of Grade 10 olive in Mathematics are predominantly 81.6%.While in
Science is 81.8%.Lastly in English is 84.5%. Overall the three subjects has a 82.63%

2. What subject do the students in Grade 10 Olive excel most?

-The students well excel most in English subject

3. In what subject do the students in Grade 10 Olive class struggle?

-The subjects that the Grade 10 Olive students struggle is Mathematics
