Chapter 1

A. Background

Etching is painting, carving or moving images to a metal surface by

erode metal using etching acid
. As a way of intaglio in graphic art, along with gravir, etching is a very
important technique in the history of Western graphic art (old master
prints) and is still widely used to this day.
Many products use etching techniques for business. There are two types
of ways to etch, how the Etch acid erodes the metal surface, namely by
covering or protecting the image object part (image motif) and leaving
the background to be allowed to be eroded by a chemical solution, which
is called positive etching. on the other hand, by protecting or covering
the image background so as not to be exposed to chemical acids and the
image object part (image motif) is allowed to be eroded by a chemical
acid solution called negative etching.

B. Purpose

Briefly, the purpose of this report is:

1. To know the definition of etching
2. To know the dose of each liquid
3. To learn the positive etching process
Chapter 2

A. Preparations

The method performed for this etching process is the positive etching
method. In this process the part that will be scraped off is the
background of the motif or design, so in this process make the motif
first, this time the motif has been closed by the riveting process, then the
plate can be directly immersed in acid etching.

B. Tools and Materials

The tools needed to etch are:

- Container
- Brush
- Cut pliers
- Sandpaper

The materials needed to etch are:

- Brass plate
- H2O(Water)
- HCL liquid
- H2O2 liquid
C. The process

The first step for the metal scraping process is to mix the etching acid,
how to make etching acid using H20 (water), HCL, H202. for that there
is a content of each liquid, for H2O is 70%, for HCL it is 20%, for H202
is 10%. Pour all into one prepared container.

Then soak the brass plate into the etching acid, the container must be
shaken - shake it so that the acid erodes evenly to the surface of the
plate. the process is carried out for approximately 20 minutes, then lift
the plate and cleaned. the plate is brushed and washed using water can
also use soap
