Speech:

1. What is the use/significance of the document “Kasaysayan” (Narrative) in relation to

the founding of the Katipunan?

The significance of this document highlights the Katipunan’s core beliefs; the reasons
and motives for their fight for the freedom of the nation and who they dedicate their fight
for. The Katipunan’s main motivation is to fight against the injustice the Spaniards
brought upon us, to take back what they have taken away from the Filipino – wealth,
human rights, and most importantly, freedom and liberty. The document also talks
highly of those who endure selfless and painful self-sacrifices for the sake of dedicating
themselves to the fight against injustice; figures who possess these traits that are stated
in the document are Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos, Jacinto Zamora, and Jose Rizal.
2. Choose 2 teachings of the Katipunan and explain how it encourages the people to
join the revolutionary society.

One of the main principles of the
Katipunan that is incredibly apparent within their members and one which they hold very
highly of is the importance of selfless acts. This teaching encourages people to
dedicate their deeds and their life not for selfish gain, but to the greater good – which is,
to the Katipunan, the retaking of the Filipino’s freedom and liberty.

“Ipagtanggol mo ang inaapi, at kabakahin ang umaapi.” This is meant to instill to the
people the value of fighting against injustice, which is synonymous to fighting against
the Spaniards and defending our people.

3. In the Pahayag (Manifesto) of Emilio Jacinto what observation or analysis can you
draw why Liberty refused or in fact abandoned the suffering youth.

From the documents I’ve read so far, there is one re-occurring theme that I’ve noticed.
The incredible value and importance the Katipunan puts into selflessness and sacrifice.
Liberty states that those who do not value her, who do not love her to go as far as to die
for her cause, are not worthy of her blessings. This doesn’t mean that Liberty thinks
that the youth doesn’t have the potential to do all these things, but it more so means
that the youth will need to act and prove himself worthy of her blessings first.
