5. Now, start work with the excerpt (text 7). Scan the first paragraph. Look for
subjective discursive signals. Underline them. What’s the author’s purpose? State it
clearly.
6. What relationship is there between the author’s purpose and the information
presented in the flyer?
7. Scan paragraph boundaries. As you do so circle 8 key words and phrases.
8. Were you able to find text semantic organization? If not, choose another reading
strategy, apply it and explain text semantic organization.
9. Choose subtitles for the paragraphs. These subtitles must indicate semantic
organization.
10. Design an outline showing how the text is organized.

VERIFICATION

1. Explain the phrase “the same design strategy” (paragraph 3)


2. What’s the correlative of “not only” (appears twice in paragraph 8)? What ideas are
linked in each case? Explain fully.
3. What does “this principle of artistic production” (last paragraph) refer back to?
4. Make a list of Japanese aesthetic characteristics.
5. Choose 3 paragraphs you think are the most important. Rank them from 1 to 3 (1 being
the most important) and support your choice.
6. Look for the following connectors in the text. Underline them. With the help of the
Dictionario de Gramática Funcional explain the function these connectors generally
have and then explain the ideas each of them join in the text.

4. Go back to the outline you designed in the ANTICIPATION stage. What do you need to
add or change in order to present a graphic and semantic representation of the text?
