Điểm giống So-that, Such-that

So..that và such..that đều được dùng để nói giải thích kết quả, ý kiến về điều gì đó đã được đề
cập.

Trong câu, “so hoặc such” dùng nói nguyên nhân tạo nên “that” kết quả.

Tương tự ý nghĩa nhưng cách dùng của chúng lại khác nhau.

Cấu trúc So-that và cách dùng

Cấu trúc so ... that có nghĩa là “quá ... đến nỗi mà …”, thường dùng để cảm thán về một sự vật,
sự việc hoặc một người nào đó.
Với tính từ

S + be + so + Adj + that + S + V

- The food was so hot that we couldn’t eat it.

Với động từ thường

S + V + so + Adv + that + S + V

- He drove so quickly that no one could catch him up.

Với động từ chỉ tri giác

Động từ chỉ tri giác là những từ chỉ cảm nhận, cảm xúc liên quan tới giác quan của con người.
Một số động từ chỉ tri giác thường gặp là: seem, feel, sound, look, taste, smell... Sau các động
từ này, chúng ta phải dùng tính từ và tuyệt đối không được chia chúng ở dạng tiếp diễn.

S + Sensory verb + so + Adj + that + S + V

- I felt so angry that I decided to cancel the trip.

Với danh từ đếm được số nhiều

S + V + so + many/few + plural/ Countable noun + that + S + V

- She has so many skirts that she spends much time choosing the suitable one.

Với danh từ đếm được số ít

Cấu trúc này cũng có thể được coi là cấu trúc đảo ngữ của so ... that, là cấu trúc nâng cao.

S + V + so + Adj + a/an + Singular noun + that + S + V

- It was so hot a day that we decided to stay indoors.

Với danh từ không đếm được

S + V + so much/ little + Uncountable noun + that + S + V

Ví dụ:

- He had so much money that he didn’t know what to do with it.

Đây là một cấu trúc nâng cao, tuy ít dùng nhưng sẽ có thể vẫn xuất hiện ở một số đề thi
khác nhau, đặc biệt là thi học sinh giỏi.

Cấu trúc Such ...that và cách dùng

Tương tự như cấu trúc so ... that, cấu trúc such ... that cũng mang nghĩa “quá… đến nỗi mà”.

Cấu trúc cơ bản

S + V + such (a/an) + Adj + N + that + S + V

- It was such a spicy dish that I couldn’t finish it all.

Đảo ngữ such that

Cấu trúc đảo ngữ với such...that được dùng nhằm mục đích nhấn mạnh đặc điểm của sự vật,
sự việc hoặc người được nhắc đến trong câu. Đây là cấu trúc nâng cao và thông thường ít
được sử dụng hơn.

Such + be (a/an) + Adj + N + that + S + V + O

hoặc Such (a/an) + Adj + N + be + S + That + S + V + O

- Such is a difficult assignment that all the students in my class can’t finish it.

LƯU Ý

Trong cấu trúc such … that, chúng ta cần dùng mạo từ “a/an" trước danh từ số ít

Không dùng mạo từ với danh từ số nhiều và danh từ không đếm được.
