 Cụ m độ ng từ là sự kết hợ p giữ a mộ t độ ng từ vớ i mộ t trạ ng từ hoặ c

mộ t giớ i từ , hoặ c đô i khi cả hai để tạ o thà nh mộ t độ ng từ mớ i có
nghĩa đặ c biệt.
 Nghĩa củ a cá c cụ m độ ng từ thườ ng khá c hoà n toà n vớ i nghĩa củ a
độ ng từ gố c.
 Ví dụ : come in – mờ i và o, look after – chă m só c, looking for – tìm
kiếm.
 Cụ m độ ng từ có thể là ngoạ i độ ng từ (transitive) hoặ c nộ i độ ng từ
(intransitive) hoặ c đô i lú c chú ng có thể đượ c sử dụ ng theo hai cá ch.
 Mộ t số cụ m độ ng từ có tâ n ngữ có thể tá ch rờ i độ ng từ và trạ ng từ :
nếu tâ n ngữ là danh từ thì ta có thể đặ t tâ n ngữ ở trướ c hoặ c sau
trạ ng từ .
 Cá c cụ m độ ng từ có ba (verb + adverb + preposition) thà nh phầ n
thườ ng có nghĩa đặ c biệt khô ng thể tá ch rờ i.

- Chú ng ta có thể sử dụ ng nhữ ng từ dù ng để hỏ i who, what, where, when,

how trướ c to V để thể hiện mộ t tình huố ng khó xử hoặ c khô ng chắ c chắ n.
Ví dụ: We don’t know who we shoud contact.
=> We don’t know who to contact.
- Lưu ý:
+ Từ để hỏ i why khô ng đượ c sử dụ ng trướ c to V.
+ Chú ng ta thườ ng sử dụ ng cá c độ ng từ ask, wonder, (not) be sure, have no
idea, (not) know, (not) decide, (not) tell trướ c từ để hỏi + to V.
