Section: 4A

1. Research and identify at least 3 issues or challenges of architectural practice in the

Philippines.

1) Due to rapid urbanization, cities are overcrowded, increasing demand for

infrastructure, housing, and public areas. Architects must balance sustainability,
infrastructure constraints, and cultural context while planning for expanding
populations.
2) Complex and uneven regulations, permitting processes, and zoning restrictions
present challenges for architects. Bureaucratic practices can delay project
completion and increase costs.
3) Balancing historical and cultural preservation with modern development is difficult.
Architects balance conservation and growth by incorporating new ideas into
traditional architecture, cultural landmarks, and heritage sites.

2. As an architect, propose a policy or law that addresses one (1) of the identified issues. In
100-250 words, justify and explain why this policy is necessary and how it can positively
impact the architectural practice in the Philippines.

Incentivized sustainable design requirements for urban construction projects could

help manage urbanization and congestion in the Philippines. New buildings must meet
energy efficiency, eco-friendly material, and green space or rooftop garden requirements
under this policy.

Tax benefits, quicker permitting, and subsidies for meeting these standards would
incentivize architects and developers to prioritize sustainable design. This policy reduces
overpopulation by promoting effective land use and promotes sustainability in architecture.

This program would reduce overcrowding by encouraging more deliberate,

space-efficient designs and relieving urban infrastructure. Second, it would promote
