f. Performance-based assessments description

The first performance-based assessment is a Periodic Table escape room. The

class will be placed into groups. Each group is given the first problem/objective. The team will

work together in order to solve it. Once they solve it, the answer will reveal a code. The code
will be entered into a google classroom that will only move on when the code is correct. After

the code is entered correctly, they will receive the next question and so forth. This will happen

for 5 rounds of hint/questions. The objectives that will be covered is TSWBAT Identify elements

on the Periodic table, the trends throughout, and arrange elements based on the

characteristics. The level of Bloom’s utilized is the analyses aspect. The student will need to

deeply analyze the Periodic Table in order to complete the escape room.

The second performance-based assessment is making a few elements of the

Periodic Table out of cookies. Each student will be designated a few elements. They must

decorate their cookie with what they believe is the most important information that other

students would need to know. They must add a picture of what the elements look like in real

life. Once the students are done, they must try and organize the cookie based on the

characteristics of the elements that the cookies have on them. Other examples of the Periodic

Table will be covered so no one can look at them. This strongly hits the objective of knowing

the characteristics of the elements as well as atomic mass of an element, elements on the

periodic table, the main periodic trends throughout, and arrange elements of the periodic table

based on the characteristics. The level of Bloom’s targeted is creation. They must construct,

assemble, design, and develop.
