STANDARDS (i) Read any given number in words.
(ii) Say any number given in numerals.
(iii) Write numbers in numerals with the words.
LEARNING By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils will be able to:-

SUCCESS Pupils are able to :-
CRITERIA 1. Read, say and write five numbers in numerals and words.
2. Match the words and numbers using flashcard.
3. Present two solved questions.

Introduction (5 minutes)
1. Pupils listen to teacher LO.
2. Pupils are shown with number cards 0 to 9 and formed 5 digit numbers.

Activity 1 (Create Something, Free Discussion) (20 minutes)


1. Pupils discuss the number formed and form another 5 digit numbers.
2. Pupils are emphasised to say out the numbers correctly
3. Pupils carry out group activities on saying numbers randomly using number cards.
4. Pupils use the flash card to write numbers in numeral and words.

Activity 2 (Mix and Match) (15 minutes)


1. In groups, pupils carry out game activities or competitions saying numbers and reading numbers in
words on newspaper, computer displays or flash cards.
2. Pupils match the words and numbers using flash cards (mix and match).

Activity 3 (Try It Out) (15 minutes)


1. Pupils solve Test Yourself on page 3.
2. Pupils discuss the answer

Closure (5 minutes)
1. Pupils summarize the lesson for today with guide of teacher.

1. Pupils listen to teacher LO.
2. Pupils are shown with this number “53 746” in front.
3. Pupils are ask to say and write the number in words.

Activity 1 (Underline It, Free Discussion) (20 minutes)


1. Pupils are asked to underline words that are not numbers. Examples ten, hundred, thousand.
2. Pupils are asked what they understand.
3. Based on Page 4 – 5, pupils discuss with teacher place value and digit value.

Activity 2 (Copy Me) (15 minutes)


1. In groups, pupils are asked to gather information on numbers from magazines, newspaper or articles.
2. Pupils carry out activity on writing place values, digit values and partitioning numbers.
3. Pupils are reminded that it is easier to state the partitioned value of a number by arranging the digit
values from the largest to the smallest.

Activity 3 (Try It Out) (15 minutes)


1. Pupils solve Test Yourself on Page 5
2. Pupils discuss the answer

Closure (5 minutes)
1. Pupils summarize the lesson for today with guide of teacher.

1. Pupils listen to teacher LO.
2. Pupils are shown 5 number cards.
3. Pupils are asked to take the card and arrange in ascending and descending order.

Activity 1 (Free Discussion, Simulation) (20 minutes)


1. Pupils are emphasised that number values become larger in ascending order and become smaller in
descending order.
2. Based on example on Page 6 – 7, pupils discuss with teacher and carry out simulation activity on
comparing and arranging numbers.
3. Pupils are guide to use various representations to compare number values.

Activity 2 (Internet Surfing) (15 minutes)


1. In groups, pupils carry out group activities to find suitable data from the web. For example, number of
tourists.
2. Pupils are asked to arrange number cards in ascending and descending orders in the fastest time.

Activity 3 (Try It Out) (15 minutes)


1. Pupils solve Test Yourself on Page 8.
2. Pupils discuss the answer

Closure (5 minutes)
1. Pupils summarize the lesson for today with guide of teacher.
