Awasian Elementary School Faces Flood During Holiday Break: Community

Efforts Aid in Recovery

Awasian Elementary School, typically a place of learning and laughter,

encountered an unexpected challenge during the holiday break last December 27,
2023, when floodwaters breached its premises. As teachers and staff enjoyed their well-
deserved vacation, classrooms and even the school principal's office fell victim to the
rising waters, resulting in significant damage. Despite the unforeseen disruption, the
resilience of the school community shone through as teachers, stakeholders, and
volunteers joined forces to ensure the safety and well-being of the pupils before the
resumption of classes on January 3, 2024.
The flood struck Awasian Elementary School with little warning, catching
everyone off guard as they enjoyed their holiday festivities. Heavy rains caused nearby
rivers to overflow, leading to the inundation of the school grounds. Classrooms were
submerged, valuable resources were damaged, and the principal's office bore the brunt
of the flood's impact.
"It was heartbreaking to see the extent of the damage when we returned from our
holiday break," expressed Mrs. Atezora, a teacher at Awasian Elementary. "But we
knew we had to act quickly to ensure the safety of our students once they returned."
In the aftermath of the flood, the school community rallied together, exemplifying
the true spirit of unity and support. Teachers, stakeholders, and concerned citizens
volunteered their time and resources to assist in the recovery efforts. Together, they
worked tirelessly to clean up the affected areas, salvage what they could, and prepare
the school for the imminent return of the students. "The outpouring of support from the
community was truly heartwarming," remarked School Head Ma’am Abarico. "It
reaffirmed our belief in the strength of our school family." Thanks to the collective efforts
of dedicated individuals, Awasian Elementary School was able to reopen its doors to
students on January 3, 2024. Temporary arrangements were made to accommodate
classes while repairs continued, ensuring that the learning process remained
uninterrupted.
"Our priority was to create a safe and nurturing environment for our students,"
emphasized Mrs. Abarico, the school head. "Their well-being is always our top
concern."
As the school community continues to recover from the impact of the flood, the
resilience and solidarity demonstrated during this challenging time serve as a testament
to the strength of Awasian Elementary School. Despite the setbacks faced, the
unwavering commitment to the students' education and welfare remains steadfast,
ensuring that they continue to receive the quality education they deserve. Moving
forward, the school looks towards a brighter future, strengthened by the bonds forged in
adversity and guided by the collective determination to overcome any obstacle that may
come their way.
