(Lead the prayer)
(Stand for the prayer)
Classroom Management

meeting?”
“Last time we discussed different types of
(The teacher will call someone to answer) speeches according to purpose.”

“Very Good! But who can still remember the (Some students raise their right hand to answer)
different types of speeches according to purpose?”
“Informative or expository speech, persuasive

“Very nice answer! Good job! It is nice to know
that you still remember our last lesson.”

C. Motivation “Yes ma’am!”

“Before we proceed with our discussion, let us
first play a game. Are you familiar with the
picture on the screen?”
“4 pics 1 word”
“What do you call this game?”

“Correct! I know some of you are familiar with

the game but to those who don’t have any idea
about this game, let’s have the mechanics.

First, all you need to do is to analyze the 4

pictures that will appear on the screen because
that will serve as your clue to guess the mystery
word. Are you ready?” “Yes ma’am we are more than ready!”

“That’s good to know. Let’s start! Can you guess (Students start raising their hands)
our first word with these pictures?”

(The teacher will call a student) “Speech is the answer ma’am.”

“Very Good! That is correct. How about the (Students start raising their hands)
second mystery word? Who can guess the
answer?”

(The teacher will call a student) “Style ma’am.”

“Good Job! You are all excellent. Since we

already know the mystery words for today, I bet
you all have an idea about our topic which is
speech styles.”

D. Lesson Proper
The teacher will introduce to the students the
objectives of the lesson that they will attain at the
end of the discussion.

“With that, let us start by defining each word. Can

someone define the word speech? Is anyone
familiar with that word?”
(Students start raising their hands)
(The teacher will call one student to answer)
“Speech is the expression of or the ability to
express thoughts and feelings by articulating

to express thoughts and feelings. How about the
word style? Do you have any idea about the (Students start raising their hands)
meaning of the word style?”

(The teacher will call one student to answer)

“Very Good! Style is defined as a unique way of

doing or arranging something. Just like the given “It refers to a unique way of doing or arranging
example pictures in our game a while ago, there something.”
are different styles when it to fonts, clothing, hair,
and even in communication. Do you think we
have styles in communicating with other people?
What do you think are those styles?”

“Very well said, that means, speech style or also “Styles in communication or speeches refers on
known as communicative style refers to the the degree of formality on how we exchange

“Did you know that there are 5 speech styles

namely intimate, casual, consultative, formal, and
frozen? Now, let’s differentiate the degree of
formality of those 5 styles by going to different
places wherein we will analyse different
conversations of different people and situations.

“Are you ready?”

“Let’s first go in a house. This is a conversation

that can be heard in a house. “

(Call two students to read the conversation)

“Yes ma’am!”

“What do you think is the relationship between

the man and the woman in the conversation that (Read the conversation)
you’ve read?”

“Very Good! In this sample conversation, what do

you think is the degree of formality or the speech
style that was used?”

“Good Job! Intimate is the answer. Why do you

think intimate is the type of speech style used in
the given conversation?”
“They are a couple.”
“Excellent answer! Intimate style is used by
participants who know each other well or share a
very close relationship. The participants in this “Intimate”
style do not need for clear articulation of words or
additional explanations. They may use words of
endearment such as babe, love, dear, honey as a
sign of closeness.”
“From the word itself. Intimate means using

intimate style can be used?” “

“Very nice answers. Are there any questions

about the intimate style?”

“Okay, let’s now go in our second place which is

in the neighborhood. Can someone read the lines
of the man and the woman in our given
conversation?”
(Call volunteer students) “Telling a secret to a friend.”
“Saying I love you to your parents.”
“Calling your sister to say I miss you.”
“Using nicknames or call signs in calling
someone.”

“None ma’am.”

“What do you think is the relationship between

the man and the woman in the given (Read the conversation)
conversation?”

“Very Good. What makes you think that the man

and the woman are classmates?”

“Good answer. What do you think is the degree of

formality or the speech style that was used in the
sample conversation?”

“Why do you think casual is the answer?”

“Classmates.”

“Very nice answer. Casual style uses a language

used between friends, peers, colleagues, or family
whom you know but is not very close to you. “For the reason that the woman said that she is not

interruptions are very common. Can you give
other sample situations wherein casual speech
style can be used?”
“Just like casual clothes, casual communicative

“Let’s now go in our next place which is in the “It can be use in talking to a friend, classmate,

(Call students)

characters in the given conversation?”

their relationship?”

“What do you think is the speech style used in the

conversation?”
(Read the conversation)
“Very good. Just like what you have said I while
ago, the woman is consulting about her condition
to the doctor and asking for a prescription which
is the reason why it is an example of a
consultative speech style. As an additional

in which a speaker needs to provide background
information. The listener participates by giving

“Very good answers. Are there any questions

about this tyle?” “A student who is asking her teacher about their

conversation.”
(Call a student to read)

“What is the job of the character in our sample

conversation?”

“Very Good! Can you describe the job of a

reporter? What are they doing?”
“None ma’am!”
“Can their audience ask them a question while
their reporting on TV or in a radio?”

“What do you think is the speech style that was

used by reporters?”
(Read the conversation)
“How can you say that it is formal?”

“Very good! That explains the definition of the “Broadcaster”

formal communicative style. It is a style that is “Reporter”

is no participation from the listener which is why “They are reporting news on TV and even in a

“Giving announcements”

“What do you think is the speech style that was

used in the given situation?”

“What makes you think that Frozen speech style

was seen in this situation?”
“None ma’am!”
“Very good analysis. Frozen speech style uses
statements that are learned by heart. Examples are
the Pledge of Allegiance (Panunumpa sa Watawat
ng Pilipinas) and the National Anthem. It is
typically prescribed by law, or it is a ritual that
involves certain fixed statements (verbatim) that (Read the given conversation)
are never changed. Can you give other examples
of Frozen speech style?”

“Very good examples. Any questions about frozen

speech style?”
“Frozen”
E. Application
“Alright! Since you don’t have any questions.
Let’s have your Seatwork number 2. Please bring “Frozen, from the word itself, the words that were

let’s answer your seatwork.”
“Prayers”
“For your seatwork, you only need to identify the “Religious services like weddings”
appropriate type of communicative style for the
given situations. Write your answers in your
notebook. Answer only. I’ll give you 5 minutes to
answer.”
“Times up! Let’s check your answers. Who wants
to answer number 1 about asking something from
your neighbor?”
(Call volunteer student)
“How about number 2 which is delivering a “None ma’am!”
valedictory address?”

“How about number 3 about telling a secret to

your mom?”
(Students bring out their English notebooks and

“How about the last number which is number 5

about telling the school nurse about your (Students start answering their Seatwork)
headache?”

“Very Good! Please count the number of correct

answers. Who among you got 5? 4? 3?”

F. Generalization
“Good job! All of you passed the seatwork. Can
someone summarize the learnings you gained for
today’s lesson?” “Casual”

“Formal”

“Intimate”
