CONSTRUCTION OF OHAFIA – OSO ROAD IN ABIA/EBONYI STATES

INTRODUCTION
This road project is a 20km road connecting Ohafia in Abia state with Oso in Ebonyi
State, The project road begins from Ohafia which has asphaltic concrete surface in good
condition with non shulder. The rehabilitation will involve the overlay of km 0 – km 8.3 and the
construction of km 8.3 – km 20.
SCOPE OF WORKS
I) Site clearance and earthworks

II) Provision of 200mm naturally occurring laterite sub base material on carriageway and
shoulder.

III) Provision of 200mm naturally occurring lateritic base material on shoulder (km 8.3 –
km 20)

IV) Provision of 200mm crushed stone base material on carriageway width (km 8.3
km20)

V) Provision of 60mm Asphaltic concrete binder course on the provided stone base (km
8.3 – km20 )

VI) Provision of 40mm Asphaltic concrete wearing course on the binder course provided.

VII) Provision of two coat surface dressing on 2.75m shoulders both side.

VIII) Provision of lane markings, road signs, kilometer post.

IX) Placement of stone pitching as directed.

X) Excavation of unsuitable materials to spoil

XI) Provision of concrete lined drains in township and villages.

XII) Provision of 1 – 900mm pipe culverts as replacement across the project road as
directed.

XIII) Provision of kerbs as directed.

XIV) Provision of box culverts as replacement and other hydraulic structure as directed.

XV) Grassing of embankment slope where directed.

GENERAL REMARKS
This project is a 20km road connecting Ohafia in Abia State with Oso in Ebonyi State.
Due to shortage of quantities, the scope of works was reduced to 11.7km beginning
from Ohafia junction. Five (5km) of the Pavement structures have been completed
up to wearing course level. The contractor abandoned the site due to outstanding
payment of certified works but recently remobilized to site after receiving part
payment in third quarter of 2016 of amount being owed .The contractor is on site
making progress.
