Author: Natalie Guadiana, Taylor Okashima
Year: 2021

Abstract: Adequate sleep is crucial for physical, mental, and cognitive health. In
healthcare, it's vital for patient safety, as sleep deprivation leads to more errors. Poor
sleep harms the nervous system and affects academic performance. To address sleep
deprivation, maintaining healthy habits and sleep hygiene is essential. University
students, facing academic and financial pressures, often experience sleep issues like
poor quality, insomnia, and daytime sleepiness. Studying the effects of sleep
deprivation on students and developing interventions is critical.

Year:2020

Abstract:This study examined the relationship between sleep quality and academic
achievement among 102 medical students at Kermanshah University of Medical
Sciences. Using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), researchers found moderate
to severe sleep disturbances in both high and low-grade students. However, there was
no significant difference in sleep quality between the two groups, suggesting a lack of
direct correlation between sleep quality and academic performance. Further longitudinal
studies are needed to better understand these findings and control for confounding
factors.

STUDENTS WITH SLEEP DEPRIVATION: A PHENOMENOLOGICAL STUDY
Author: Leslie Ann O. Parantar,Jessel Jane M. Reforzado,Gabrielle Victor T.
Costuna,Felvieh H. Llurag,Rolando T. De Veyra III
Year: 2021

Abstract: Researchers examined coping strategies of sleep-deprived senior high school
students. Leyte Normal University-Integrated Laboratory School students were
surveyed using researcher-made questionnaires, approved by a Research Advisor.
Colaizzi's (1978) data analysis technique was used to evaluate experiences. Despite
varying degrees of sleep deprivation, students showed similar coping techniques:
consuming beverages (caffeinated, milk, tea, water), engaging in activities (listening to
music, social media, exercise). Students effectively combated sleep deprivation,
suggesting regulation is achievable with effort. It's crucial for students to create
balanced schedules to manage personal life, academics, and relaxation.

5. Title of Study: The Effects of Sleep Deprivation

Abstract:
Sleep deprivation among students is a pressing concern with widespread consequences.
Despite reliance on stimulants like caffeine, inadequate sleep leads to poorer academic
performance, increased depression and anxiety, and behavioral issues. Health-wise, it
weakens the immune system, raises blood pressure, and contributes to weight gain.
Addressing this issue is crucial for academic success, emotional stability, and overall
health.
