The White Shoes

(Synopsis)

Eva Cruz is called "Mrs. Shoes" by everyone. It's because she loves giving away
shoes—as gifts, prizes, rewards, and awards.

Why would she do that?

It all started when she had to wear white shoes on her grade school graduation
years ago. Her father was very sick and her mother was not earning enough money
as a laundry woman. There was no way they could afford to buy her white shoes.

But that embarrassing day turned her life around.

With the wisdom of her father and the love of her whole family, "Mrs. Shoes" grew
up to be the generous and grateful business woman that she is today.

Note: Full text of the story is attached as Annex A

Let us now check your understanding. (This will be done through a cabbage game
activity)

1. Why is Mrs. Cruz named as “Mrs. Shoes”?

2. Cite at least two reasons that made Mrs. Cruz’s experience life-changing.
3. Explain why Mrs. Cruz is fond of giving shoes?
4. What do you think made Mrs. Cruz a successful businesswoman?

Note: Allow the students to speak in vernacular but do encourage speaking in English. The teacher may
translate the questions, provide hints and scaffolds that will lead the students to the appropriate
response.
