Theorems on
Isosceles Triangle
What Is an
Isosceles Triangle?
ISOSCELES TRIANGLE
A triangle with two sides of equal
length is an isosceles triangle.
Isosceles Triangle Theorem
Isosceles triangle theorem states
that if two sides of a triangle are
congruent, then the angles
opposite to the congruent sides
are also congruent.
Isosceles Triangle Theorem
A
If AB ≅ AC
then ∠B ≅ ∠C

C B
Example 1
a. In the given figure,
find the value of x
using the isosceles
triangle theorem.

x = 35°
Example 1
b. In the given figure,
find the value of x
using the isosceles
triangle theorem.
Example 1.b
∠A = ∠C = 72°
m∠A + m∠B + m∠C = 180
72 + x + 72 = 180
144 + x = 180
x = 180 – 144

x = 36°
Corollary
● An equilateral triangle
is also equiangular.
● An equilateral triangle
has three 60° angles.
The Converse of the
Isosceles Triangle Theorem
If two angles of a triangle are
congruent, then the sides opposite to
the congruent angles are also
congruent.
Isosceles Triangle Theorem
A
If ∠B ≅ ∠C
then AB ≅ AC

C B
Example 2
If ∠P ≅ ∠Q and QR =
7.5 cm, find the value
of PR.

PR = 7.5 cm
Corollary
● An equiangular triangle
is also equilateral.

Example 4: Find the length of each side of ⃤ RAM.

RM = RA
2x – 3 = x + 5
2x – x = 5 + 3
x=8
Example 4: Find the length of each side of ⃤ RAM.

RM = RA RA = x + 5
2x – 3 = x + 5
2x – x = 5 + 3
=8+5
x=8 = 13

RM = 2x – 3 MA = x – 3
= 2(8) – 3 =8–3
= 16 – 3 =5
= 13
