Exercise:
1. What applications or computer programs consume most of your time? Enumerate at
least 3 examples.
- In my everyday life, the applications that consume most of my time are Messenger,
Spotify, and Google Chrome.
2. What roles do these media play in your everyday activity?
- Messenger is essential for communicating with my classmates and teachers regarding
academic and school matters, it is essential to keep my grades up. Spotify keeps me
focused in general but is most helpful while I’m doing my assignments/homeworks. And
Google Chrome is essential for me to get information in things that I encounter in my
everyday life and for academic purposes.
3. Based on your observation, how do different forms of social media affect the lives of
people today?
- Based on my observation, different forms of social media make people not as social.
As social media is where they get their dopamine, they feel as if being social to connect
to other people is no longer needed. Another observation that I had is that people are
more informed about a wide array of topics. Different types of information are very
widespread in social media platforms like Tiktok, Facebook, and Twitter. exposure to
these make one very educated on many topics.
4. Describe the situation if the technologies that we are using today were not invented.
- I think students will still be using libraries to do research, and as a result, more
physical books will be published. Libraries will also be more organized and prettier as it
will be focused on for improvement with the absence of technology. Learning will be
less accessible with the absence of youtube and other information websites. Society as
a whole will also struggle as the benefits of modern technology are relied on for
business, communication, and expression as a norm.
5. What do you think are the impacts of ICT in our personal lives and society?
- ICT is very important in our current time, however it is a double-edged sword. In our
personal lives, it may benefit or destroy our mental health. If we use the benefits of ICT
to our advantage, our lives can be significantly easier. But it must be used wisely as too
much usage of ICT or using it in the wrong way can impact our mental health
negatively. ICT is also very relevant in our society. It has become a norm to use ICT for
communications in companies and businesses, and to conduct business. Advertising
and growth happen digitally for a lot of companies and businesses. If there was no ICT,
businesses in third-world or developing countries will surely struggle. As a whole, ICT is
very relevant in today’s world. No doubt that will everyone have a hard time to adjust
their lifestyle if ICT suddenly disappeared from our world.
