SOME USEFUL HINTS

1. Before you start, make sure you have the latest version of this pattern (found on the title page). Check the website
www.zabbez.com for any errata on your version.
2. Crochet tightly so you get a clean and firm surface and no filling can shine through. If you crochet very loose, choose
a smaller hook size.
3. Using the stated hook size and yarns, your doll will turn out about 28 cm (11 inch) from the feet to the top of the head.
And about 31 cm (12.2 inch) with flower petals included.
4. You can choose a different kind of yarn with a different gauge. Adjust hook size accordingly. The measurement of the
doll will also change.
5. Fill the doll with soft stuffing firmly as you go. The firmer you stuff, the firmer your doll will turn out.
6. The entire doll is worked in spirals.
7. And don’t forget, have fun!

Now you are going to crochet the two legs together. Start by laying the two legs together with leg 1 on the right side and
leg 2 on the left side. The working yarn from leg 2 is now in the middle. The feet are pointing slightly outwards (fig 1).
Remove your hook from the working yarn and insert it from the inside out in stitch 10 of the right leg. Pull the loop from
the left leg through. Your legs are now connected (fig 2). Now using this loop as your first loop on the hook, insert your
hook in stitch 1 of the left leg (fig 3) and make your first single crochet. This is the beginning of your new round. Continue
to crochet round 32 of the body (fig 4).

Tip: If your legs don’t meet the right position on stitch 1 and 10, be sure to fasten off both legs, adjust the legs in the right
position and start the joining round with a new loop in between the legs.

PETALS (make 10 large, 10 medium and 10 small)
You are going to make a lot of petals in three sizes: Large, Medium and Small. Pay close
attention to what stitches you need to make when and where. All bottom corners of the petals
are made by three stitches (hdc, dc, hdc) in the same stitch. Each petal has a picot tip and has
5 or 6 base loops for attaching it to the cap. Make sure you crochet fairly tight so the leaves are
firm and keep their shape.

How to make a picot stitch

Make a chain of 3. Skip 2 loops and make a slipstitch in the 3rd loop. This is your picot.
Continue to crochet as normal.

CAP
The cap starts with yellow and then switches to white. All petals are crocheted together with the cap.

1 2 3 4

On round 12 you start to crochet the small petals together with the cap. Lay the petal with the right side up on the cap
and insert your hook through both the petal and the cap (fig. 1). Each small petal has 5 base loops, so you make 5 single
crochets to attach the petal to the cap (fig. 2). After each petal you make 1 sc. This way you can fit exactly 10 small
petals on the 60 loops of round 12 (fig. 3). For the medium petals we first start with 3 sc on round 16 to space them out.
From there the medium petals are crocheted together with the cap the same way as the small petals with 1 sc in
between each petal. You finish the last medium petal on the first 2 sc of round 17. The large petals are crocheted
together on round 20. The large petals have 6 base loops and round 20 has 60 loops, so you can fit exactly 10 petals on
the round without making a sc in between. Finish the last rounds and your water lily flower cap is done (fig. 4).

SKIRT (LEAF)
The skirt is worked in spirals from round 1 to 4. From row 5 the skirt is worked in rows. Every row you start by making 2
turning chains. These are not counted in the total stitches. Make sure you crochet fairly tight so the skirt ends up firm and
keeps its shape.

FO and leave enough yarn to attach to the body.

Sew the skirt between round 42 and 43

of the body. Position the indent slightly
off center of the back. Be aware that
because the body is crocheted in spirals
and the skirt is round, you will have to
make a jump of one round. Make this
jump gradually at the back or on the
side where it is not noticed.

ASSEMBLING ALL THE PARTS

STEP 1: ARMS AND BODY
Sew both the arms to the body at the second to last round (round 67 of the body) with the thumbs pointing forward.

STEP 2: EYES AND HEAD

Attach the eyes to the head between round 18 and 19 with 11 stitches space between (see instructions for the head).

STEP 3: HEAD AND BODY

Make sure the head and body are stuffed firmly and crochet or sew them together.

STEP 4: PETALS AND CAP

Crochet the petals together with the cap (see instructions for the petals and cap). Place the cap firmly onto the head.

STAP 5: SKIRT
Sew the skirt around the waist between round 42 and 43 of the body.
