INSTRUMENTS AND MATERIALS:

• Yarn:
I have used Himalaya Super Soft Yarn (200 g-
328 m) for a 13-15 cm brain. However the size of
the toy depends of choosen yarn.
We need 5 colors of yarn: base color and 4 colors
for brain lobes;

• Hook (I use #2, but usually for the yarn of this

thickness is used 2.5-3.5. You should choose a
convenient hook for yourself)
• Hollow fiber (or any other stuffing);
• Thread to divide the brain into lobes;
• Needle for sewing;
• Scissors.

Gyrus
Firstly, we should allocate brain gyrus and divide the
brain into lobes.
We take a yarn, a little bit darker than the color of the
base. Then it will not stand out so that there will be no
need to remove it. If the yarn is contrast than we will
simply remove it.
To make the process more comfortable, we can place
the pins firstly, and then sew using wide seams.

Allocate the places without gyrus along this line we

will sew the brain halves together.
Retreat 3 rows from each side of the edge, it means
that we get maximally 19 rows on the vertical.
There should be 11 sc on the horizontal in the widest
place. Connect these sides together using smooth
seams.

@frantstoys 9
Gyrus
We go to the brain lobes dividing.

Occipital lobe (green zone): the lower point goes along

the 12th row and the top – along the 5th row. Embroider
the diagonal line.

Temporal lobe (yellow zone): the line starts from the

edge of the occipital lobe, from the seventh row and
ends on the 18th row.

Parietal lobe (blue zone): the line starts from the edge
of the temporal lobe, with 13 rows and ends on the 16th
row.

Watch a video about brain segmentation HERE.

Gyrus
Get crocheting. Crochet the gyrus through the cloth of
the base using stitches.
Join the thread to the detail and start crocheting
capturing the loops of the base. In the process of
crocheting, we turn the item at a convenient angle. We
form a variety of the gyrus. Process that is more
detailed you can watch on the video.

We gradually fill the separated area of each lobe

without going beyond the boundaries.

You can watch the video HERE.

HERE crochet in slow motion.
And HERE time lapse filling of the entire zone.

@frantstoys 11
Gyrus
After filling the occipital lobe, we go to the temporal
and parietal lobes. Join the needed color yarn and fill
the zones analogically. Fill all gaps.
Especially carefully crochet the joints between zones.
To avoid the gaps, we crochet 2 sc of different colors
into one loop.
The last we crochet the frontal lobe.

As a result, we get a brain half with one flat empty side.

Make the second brain half.

@frantstoys 12
CONNECTION AND DECORATION
If the yarn, which divides the brain into halves,
allocates, then remove it.
Sew the two halves together along the perimeter of the
flat side with a thread of the base color.

Sew a cerebellum, capturing the green and yellow

zones. Sew a medulla oblongata to the base and
make a few seams up the cerebellum.

@frantstoys 13
Done, you are awesome!
