Panagbuhi, painted this year 2023. The materials used is oil on canvas and a 24 x 24 Inch worth of P20,000.00. A painting of a man who’s wearing a yellow long sleeve shirt, a red knee level short with a piece of cloth being wrapped on her head to protect him from sun’s ray, he is wearing all of that while working under the strong heat of sun. The red background of the painting indicating how hot the temperature is. He is also holding a daro a tool used for working in a farm.
The painting is something like painted
diagonally which indicates movement of the main subject. The colors that is used is good, the red background has something deep meaning behind it, it depicts the hard work of the man, the heat he needs to endure and the sweat and blood he is pouring in working. He uses the illusion of texture to specifically emphasize the details of his work. He uses light and dark values in his art to emphasize key details, such as the skin color of the man, we all know working under the sun will make us tanner and the details of the man’s shirt as it folded when he moves or when he makes moves. The overall mood of the painting is good and the color of choice fits the theme of the painting. Catunus’ work is designed to honor all workers/farmers, it is made to appreciate their hard work and sacrifices that despite of the heat they need to endure caused by the sun they’re still working to feed and support their family’s needs. It reminded of my father, my father experienced all job just to achieve the stableness we are experiencing right now. Just by looking at this painting it is giving me motivation to study hard and help all farmers to get what they deserve because today, they are not getting what they deserve, they are being treated less and belittle all the time. Creating a painting like this makes me believe that there are still a lot of people who cares and sees farmers as a noble people. This kind of artwork is an eye opener. The work is overall full of truths of emotions. The red background telling the heat the main subject needs to endure while working, it is enough clue to tell that the painting has a deep meaning. It conveys an important social message for all o us to treat farmers in a way that they deserve to be treated. After I saw the work, it affects how I see the world right now, I came up to a realization that being a farmer is not easy, working under the sun is not easy, working and paid less is worse. Overall, I’m satisfied by the art. A Eugene O. Canadilla artwork, named Ako at si Lola, painted this year 2023, an acrylic on canvas painting and 24 x 24 Inch worth P9,000.00. The painting is composed of a healthy carabao with a carriage being attached to it and a grandmother looking back to her grandson. They are riding peacefully under the calm weather, blue sky with a bit of clouds and green surrounding. A spacious, less subject yet meaningful painting. The art is composed of a light-colors, the colors that is used complemented one another as it highlighted the main subject which are the grandmother and grandson sitting on the carriage that is attached to the carabao. The painting is painted diagonally which depicts movement of the subjects. The shadow under the subjects, means that the weather in that art is slightly sunny and the light blue background explains how calm friendly the weather is. The painter highlighted the sky more than the subjects and it is like an extreme wide shot look. The work tells the bond of a grandmother and her grandson, the action of the grandmother in the painting shows how she cares for her grandson. The carabao and the grandmother share the same attribute which is despite of aging they still are strong and can do anything for their people. The painting shows the simple life of the subjects, despite of being simple they still enjoy life and the nature. The surrounding in the art shows how nature is like back then, how beautiful our nature during those times, years ago we have breathtaking nature that is gone long ago. The painting didn’t focus in its subject but it focuses more in nature that’s why its like more spacious, lot of space is wasted but I think it’s the style of the painter. The painting is not heavy for my eyes, it gives calmness vibes, peace and being free. It’s beautifully quiet, the details are not much but impactful, the chosen colors are light and matched for its theme. Peace and love is all what we need.
