V. Background of the Study:

Instruction plays a crucial role in ensuring that children are taught the skills and
knowledge essential in building learners’ interest to acquire education in life. The Early
Language, Literacy and Numeracy Program of the Department of Education (DepEd
Order No. 12, s. 2015) was designed to develop Filipino children literacy and numeracy
skills and attitude which will contribute to lifelong learning. However, the concept of
education has undergone a major shift, amidst the pandemic, to new normal in
education. The role that teachers played before COVID-19 pandemic hits the world
as knowledge providers are now expanding into different innovations that they never
practiced before.
On the other hand, in the context of present community health risks, parents’
involvement to their child education is no longer required, but a must that needs to
be observed and applied. Formerly, the learners are spending approximately 8 hours
a day in school, during weekdays. Now the community quarantine policy required
them to stay much of their time, if not 24 hours, spend in ongoing family routines and
environment and in their homes. Students can develop many important social and
academic skills as they interact with family members and siblings.
Among these types of the distance learning modality, the researcher will determine
the effectiveness of Blended Learning (BL) supported with numeracy intervention in
teaching Grade 8 learners of Banaba West Integrated School. The findings of the
study will provide basis for the development of intervention program.
VI. Problems:
1. Low performance of students in numeracy test.
2. Most of the students are afraid of numbers.
VII. Objectives
1. Increase mathematical performance of the students by at least 20%.
2. Assist students having difficulty in Mathematics.
3. Develops higher level thinking skills
4. Promotes a positive attitude toward the subject matter
5. Promotes higher achievement and class attendance .

XI. Findings
1. 1 The pre-test results of all the four sections were far behind to the minimum
standard set by the Department of Education.
2. The post-test results were increased.
3. That innovation is effective and efficient as ways in addressing the needs of

the students in this time of pandemic.

XII. Key Changes in BWIS as a result of this project –

1. The mathematical performance of the students increased by 23.52%
2. The students develop the positive attitude towards Mathematics.
3. Strengthen the communication between the school and the parents.
