) When used to describe a noun


FL10 When "This" and "That" are used before the noun, we must
insert the measure word in between:
“This” & “ That” Structure:
这 (zhè) + measure word + noun
Grammar: Expressing "This" and "That"
1.) When used as a pronoun 那 (nà) + measure word + noun
In Chinese, "This" is translated to 这 (zhè) and "that" is
 Measure Words (MW)
translated to 那 (nà). 这 (zhè) and 那 (nà) can both refer to
1. 个 [ gè ]- classifier (for persons), classifier (for
objects and people.

2. 本 [ běn]- classifier (for books, periodicals,

A: 这是什么?zhè shì shénme?


What is this?
B: 这是一个苹果。 Zhè shì yí gè píng guǒ.
This is an apple.
A: 那是什么? Nà shì shénme?
What is that?
B: 那是一本书。 Nà shì yì běn shū.
That is a book.
A: 这是谁? Zhè shì shéi?
Who is this?
B: 这是丽丽。 zhè shì Lì lì.
This is Lily.
