Homogeneous and Heterogeneous Mixtures

Science 6, Quarter 1 – Week 1

Learning Competency with code/Kasanayang Pampagkatuto at koda

1. Describe the appearance and uses of homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures.
(S6MTIa-c1)
• Describe mixtures
• Identify the kinds of mixtures
• Describe homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures

Background Information for Learners

A mixture is a substance made by combining two or more different materials without any
chemical reaction occurring between them. Mixtures can be homogeneous, where the
components are evenly distributed throughout (like salt dissolved in water), or heterogeneous,
where the components are not evenly distributed (like a salad with lettuce, tomatoes, and
dressing). Examples of mixtures include air (a mixture of gases), alloys (mixtures of metals), and
solutions (mixtures of a solute and a solvent).
