Understanding and Communication of Project Requirements

1. Purpose
The purpose of this Quality Control Inspection and Checking Procedure is to establish a
comprehensive framework for ensuring the quality of products in shipyards and structural
fabrication yards.

2. Scope
This procedure applies to all phases of production, from incoming material inspection to
final handover to the client, encompassing welding, structural fabrication, assembly, and
integration processes.

3. Applicability
This procedure is applicable to all personnel involved in quality control, including
inspectors, welders, and management, ensuring adherence to industry standards and
client specifications.

4. Incoming Material Inspection

4.1 Raw Material Identification


 Verify material certificates against the purchase order to ensure compliance with
specifications and standards.
 Confirm material grade, dimensions, and any additional requirements.

4.2 Visual Inspection


 Conduct a thorough visual examination for visible defects such as surface cracks,
corrosion, or irregularities.
 Verify material markings and labels for accuracy and clarity.

4.3 Dimensional Checks


 Utilize calibrated tools to measure material dimensions and ensure they conform to
specified tolerances.

4.4 Material Testing


 Perform material tests, including hardness, tensile, and impact tests, as per
applicable standards.
 Record and document test results for traceability.

5. Fit-Up Inspection
 Verify fit-up dimensions and alignment before welding.
 Ensure proper joint preparation and cleanliness.

5.1 Dimensional Checks


 Measure fabricated structures to confirm compliance with design drawings.
 Confirm alignment, perpendicularity, and other relevant dimensions.

6. Welding Inspection

6.1 Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) Compliance


 Ensure that welding is carried out in accordance with approved WPS.
 Verify the qualifications and certifications of welders.

6.2 Visual Inspection


 Inspect welds for defects such as lack of fusion, porosity, and undercut.
 Verify weld size and profile against project specifications.

7. Assembly and Integration Inspection

7.1 Alignment Checks


 Verify alignment and levelness of assembled components.
 Confirm proper clearances and tolerances.

8. Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

 Ensure cleanliness and proper coating thickness.
