Group 1: Read the article and identify the different allied health professionals in the
Philippines. After that answer the guided question provided.

Allied health professionals in the Philippines are healthcare workers who provide diagnostic,
technical, therapeutic, and direct patient care support services. They work collaboratively with
physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to deliver comprehensive patient
care.

Some common allied health professions in the Philippines include:

1.Medical Technologists: They perform laboratory tests and analyze body fluids, tissues, and
cells to assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases.

2.Radiologic Technologists: They operate imaging equipment, such as X-ray machines and
computed tomography (CT) scanners, to produce diagnostic images.

3.Physical Therapists: They help patients recover from injuries or illnesses by providing manual
therapy, exercise programs, and other interventions to improve mobility and relieve pain.

4.Occupational Therapists: They assist individuals with physical, developmental, or emotional

disabilities to improve their ability to perform daily activities and enhance their quality of life.

5.Respiratory Therapists: They evaluate, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders or
cardiopulmonary diseases, often working in collaboration with physicians to administer
respiratory treatments.

6.Speech-Language Pathologists: They assess, diagnose, and treat communication and

swallowing disorders in individuals of all ages, including speech impairments and language
delays.

7.Nutritionists and Dietitians: They provide dietary counseling and develop meal plans to
promote healthy eating habits and manage medical conditions through nutrition.

These are just a few examples, and there are many other allied health professions in the
Philippines. Allied health professionals play a crucial role in the healthcare system, supporting
the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients across various medical settings.

Guided Questions:
1. What are the different allied health professionals in the Philippines. Discuss each.
