Introductory Message
Welcome to STVEP 7 – (Internet and Computing Fundamentals)!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the

Schools Division of Iloilo and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western Visayas through the
Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is developed to guide
the learning facilitators (teachers, parents and responsible adults) in helping the
learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum.

The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials aimed to

guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using the
contextualized resources in the community. This will also assist the learners in
acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge and attitudes for productivity and
employment.

For learning facilitator:

The STVEP 7 – Internet and Computing Fundamentals Learning Activity

Sheet will help you facilitate the teaching-learning activities specified in each
Competency with minimal or no face-to-face encounter between you and learner. This
will be made available to the learners with the references/links to ease the independent
learning.

For the learner:

The STVEP 7 – Internet and Computing Fundamentals Learning Activity

Sheet is developed to help you continue learning even if you are not in school. This
learning material provides you with meaningful and engaging activities for independent
learning. Being an active learner, carefully read and understand the instructions then
perform the activities and answer the assessments. This will be returned to your
facilitator on the agreed schedule.

LO 9. Explore the Microsoft Windows 10 Environment

9.1. Discuss the history and evolution of Microsoft Windows operating System.

II. Background Information for Learners

An Operating System is the most important software that runs on a computer. It

manages the computer's memory and processes, as well as all of
its software and hardware. It also allows you to communicate with the computer without
knowing how to speak the computer's language. Without an operating system, a
computer is useless.

What is Microsoft Windows?

Microsoft Windows, also called Windows and Windows OS, computer operating
system (OS) developed by Microsoft Corporation to run personal computers (PCs).
Featuring the first graphical user interface (GUI) for IBM-compatible PCs, the Windows
OS soon dominated the PC market. Approximately 90 percent of PCs run some version
of Windows. Microsoft created the Windows operating system in the mid-1980s. There
have been many different versions of Windows, but the most recent ones are Windows
10 (released in 2015), Windows 8 (2012), Windows 7 (2009), and Windows
Vista (2007). Windows comes pre-loaded on most new PCs, which helps to make it
the most popular operating system in the world

Timeline history and evolution of Microsoft Windows Operating System.

Let’s take a short travel back to the old versions of Windows and see how the
operating system has changed over the years.

Windows XP (Release date: October 25, 2001)
Windows XP was released with a heavy focus on usability.
The Start Menu, Task Bar and Control Panel were easier to
navigate and far more intuitive than the previous versions of
Windows operating systems. Security updates and monitoring https://logodownload.org/wp-
processes were enhanced to address the issues such as hackers content/uploads/2019/12/windo
and viruses where heavier emphasis on Help and Support of ws-xp-logo.png
Windows XP that provide a more comprehensive user experience
for Windows customers.

Windows Vista (Release date: November 8, 2006)

Windows Vista (2006) is widely acknowledged to have had a mixed
reception (to put it somewhat mildly) but there were elements of Vista which were
held in high regard by reviewers. Vista was defined as having been designed for
more powerful computers and users which resulted in many individuals feeling
they did not get full use out of the system. Microsoft cited Vista

as having the strongest security system to date, with mmons/thumb/3/30/Unofficial_fan_made_
enhancements to Windows Media Player and a rebranded Windows_Vista_logo_variant.svg/1280px-

Windows 7 (Release date: July 22, 2009)

2009 saw the introduction of Windows 7 and Windows
Touch. New windows features such as Snap, Peek and Shake
improved Windows functionality and inspired a fun use of the

interface. Windows Touch allow users with touchscreen devices content/uploads/2019/05/Windows7Logo.j
to use the functionality for web browsing, picture viewing, file pg
navigation etc.

Windows 8 (Release date: October 26, 2012)

Windows 8 version has the biggest change to the Windows
interface which many argued was best suited to touchscreen users. A https://d1yjjnpx0p53s8.cloudfr

particularly appreciated version of Windows 8 was its Lock Screen. thumbnail/s3/092012/window
Including the date and time, the lock screen displayed additional little s8.png?itok=qG5d4t4Y
nuggets of information such as how many emails users had. Replacing
the Start Button, the Start Screen operated as a full view of apps and
programs and the live element allowed tiles to display live information
from Apps. Search was still available and required users to merely start
typing to take advantage of this feature when in the Start screen. Many users found this
feature frustrating, stating that it was not as user friendly or convenient. Windows 8 also
boosted some full screen apps with were very touch friendly, others that were not
compatible for full screen were displayed in the desktop mode. Running apps side by
side, thereby encouraging and complimenting multitasking was an exciting and much
appreciated feature specifically for those doing multitasking which was particularly
valued with the diverse range of apps available to individuals in the Windows Store. Other
features such as built-in antivirus (Windows Defender), a new task manager,
windows explorer, cloud sync and the briefly mentioned Windows Store all made
their début with Windows 8 as well.

Windows 8.1 (Release date: October 17, 2013)
Microsoft listened to users who wanted to start their device to a
more familiar screen, and one of the biggest noted changes was the ability
to be able to power up straight to the desktop start menu, as opposed to
the live tiles start page. The start button itself was back. A new feature
from Windows 8.1 was Search Heroes, this essentially let you preform https://tr1.cbsistatic.com/hub/i

Store, a huge update of features and options in the new-style Settings page and Helps & Tips
allow a user to fully get to grips with the new system with helpful animations and full tours of
the operating system.
Windows 10 (Release date: 28 July, 2015)
Many users complained that Windows 8, the previous version of
Windows, was confusing and difficult to use. As a result, Windows 10
looks and feels similar to older versions and includes a lot of new features
and improvements.
Windows 10 has reintroduced a more traditional Start menu. It's https://images.g2crowd.com/
also been expanded to make it easier to find important apps. The uploads/product/image/social

Windows users a better experience on the Web. It's faster, more secure, aa8dc964b/windows-10.png
and includes a lot of new features. Microsoft Edge is meant to replace
Internet Explorer as your default web browser.
Similar to Siri and Google Now, you can talk to this virtual assistant with your
computer's microphone. This is named Cortana which can answer questions like: What's the
weather like today? ; Perform simple tasks like remind you to take out the trash and more.
You can move some of your windows to a virtual desktop to get them out of the way. And
the new Task view feature makes it easy to manage all of your open windows.
Other improvements are the Action Center, where important notifications are
displayed, Tablet Mode, where desktop mode (default) can switch into tablet mode for
touchscreens PCs.
