<< Initial setting procedure for JHS-180, AIS >> 1/18/03

@ Remarks:
A. To have the system energize the power, the power supply unit has to be
turned on by the Master Key.
B. To turn the power off, a Pass Word is required. (Factory default: 0000)
In case a pass word has been already put in, another number, “0180” can be
used. (The use of the number is limited to “serviceman” only.)
C. After the initial settings below, turn the power off and on again -this action be
required for proper operation.
D. If “Error 8” is displayed on the screen or the Controller locks up, do the setup
below correctly, as wrong /non- setup may cause these symptoms.

For the initial settings,


1) After turning the power on, press MENU & PWR down for a while till the message "AIS
Controller Now Loading…." appeared.
2) Choose the no.9 item, "INITIALIZE" in the Main Menu and the following items will be
appeared: 1. Sensor setting …(Page 18 of Op. Manual)
2. Internal GPS setting …(P19)
3. Ship static data setting …(P20)
4. Transponder initialize
5. Antenna selection
3) In the 1. Sensor setting, select the "Sentence" of the NMEA data in accordance to each
sensor hooked up at the terminal (TB1 of the NQE-3111, Connection Box).

Longitude/Latitude, etc.: GNS, GLL GGA, RMC
Datum Reference : DTM
RAIM Indicator : GBS
Speed Over Ground(SOG) : VBW VTG, OSD, RMC
Course Over Ground(COG) : RMC VTG, OSD
Heading : HDT OSD, HDG
Rate of turn : ROT
For example, if you hook up GPS signal at Sensor 1(RX-A & RX-B) at the TB1, you can
choose "DTM" and "GNS" & "GLL" among the selection list on the screen.
4) In the 2. Internal GPS setting, input the AIS Transponder (GPS antenna included) position in
the columns (length from Bow, Stern, Port & Starboard).
5) In the 3. Ship static data setting, input the following important status:
A) Ship's name; B) MMSI no.; C) IMO no.; D) Call Sign
In addition, input the external GPS position by the same way of the above 6).
6) Leave the 4. Transponder initialize & 5. Antenna selection settings -no need to be
set up unless any particular problem happened.
7) In the Main Menu, choose the 8. Field Maintenance and confirm the Sync Status is to be
"UTC DIRECT", meaning that the internal GPS in AIS transponder is working properly. (See
page 6.)
