(1) The old Fuel Filter Clogging Indicator (FFCI) VIN APS73A18BARD (P/N
340-408-002–0) installed on CFM56–7B engines or stocked as spares
are affected.
(2) The new Fuel Filter Clogging Indicator VIN APS73B18BARD (P/N
340-408-003–0) will be introduced in production on the engine
serial numbers listed below:
For CFM56-7BE:
Engine: 85Z597 and higher.
NOTE 1: Letter Z in engine serial number refers to engine range

854/855.
For CFM56-7B27AE:
Engine: 36Y343 and higher.
NOTE 2: Letter Y in engine serial number refers to engine range

362/363.
This information will be provided through a revision of this

Service Bulletin.
(3) These serial numbers are the best available data.
B. Description
This Service Bulletin announces the production introduction and spare
parts availability of the new Fuel Filter Clogging Indicator VIN
APS73B18BARD (340-408-003-0). Refer to (Figure 1).
NOTE: This SB introduces a design improvement of the FFCI which was

introduced by CFM56-7B Service Bulletin 73-0218.

E. Reason
(1) Objective:
INTRODUCTION OF NEW PART.
To improve the reliability.
(2) Condition:
CFM has identified design improvements of FFCI P/N VIN APS73A18BARD

(340-408-002-0) to reduce the sensitivity of the sensor to the fuel
pressure that can lead to false alarms.
(3) Cause:
False alarms on FFCI P/N VIN APS73A18BARD (340-408-002-0) have been

generated by a high sensitivity of the sensor to the fuel pressure
fluctuation.
(4) Improvement:
Introduction of an improved Fuel Filter Clogging Indicator

including:
(a) An introduction of an electronic low pass filter on the circuit

board.
(b) A change of the locations of the diameter restrictions of the

hydraulic ports.

Substantiation is by testing and analysis.

CAUTION: DO THE CFM56-7B SERVICE BULLETIN 73-0202 BEFORE YOU DO THIS SERVICE
BULLETIN.
NOTE: Changes introduced by this Service Bulletin have no effect on the

removal and installation of the fuel filter clogging indicator.
A. In Shop: Refer to (Figure 1).
(1) Remove the old Fuel Filter Clogging Indicator VIN APS73A18BARD
(340-408-002-0) from the fuel pump. Refer to Engine Shop Manual
72-00-00-030-007, Disassembly 007.
(2) Install the new Fuel Filter Clogging Indicator VIN APS73B18BARD
(340-408-003-0) on the fuel pump. Refer to Engine Shop Manual
72-00-00-430-001-A, Assembly 001.
B. On Wing: Refer to (Figure 1).
(1) Remove the old Fuel Filter Clogging Indicator VIN APS73A18BARD
(340-408-002-0)) from the fuel pump. Refer to Aircraft Maintenance
Manual (AMM), TASK 73-34-01-000-801.
(2) Install the new Fuel Filter Clogging Indicator VIN APS73B18BARD
(340-408-003-0) on the fuel pump. Refer to Aircraft Maintenance
Manual (AMM), TASK 73-34-01-400-801.
