CHAPTER ONE

1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The project is all about the supply of cold water installations to sanitary appliances e.g kitchen sink,
shower and direct water closet where it will be supplied from the main to all sanitary appliances

1.2 OBJECTIVES

 Appliances like shower makes it easy for personal cleanliness and glooming

 Kitchen sink is located inside the house where one can wash utensils inside the house, also
disposes water outside to avoid the house floor from being slippery

1.3 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

Will ensure adequate supply of clean water to improve the hygiene of the institution and smooth
running of activities

8
CHAPTER TWO

2.0 LITERATURE REVIEW

2.1 ABOUT THE EXISTING DESIGN

About the previous study of the existing design showed that the pipes used to supply water were
blocked due to scurrying inside the pipes which stopped the flow of water,

The kitchen sink bottle trap warn out and was leaking

Flushing cisterns were damaged

Galvanized iron used rusted which led to leakage thus high cost of maintenance

2.2 ABOUT PROPOSED DESIGN

AFTER THE OBSERVATION OF THE EXISTING DESIGN THE FOLLOWING CHANGES WERE MADE

• Damaged flushing cisterns were replaced with high quality one

• Closing of water taps after use, controls and help maintain water loss

• Disconnecting of all illegal connections along the water main to improve the amount of water supply

9
CHAPTER THREE

3.1 METHODOLOGY

Installation of direct cold water supply system

The following materials and tools are used:-

Materials Tools

Pvc pipes Pipe wrench

Cement Tape measure

Gate valves Hammer

Wash Hand Basin Hacksaw

Shower Tray Thread tape

Water closet

Water tank

3.2 PROCEDURE FOLLOWED

I. Step one

Surveying of the area is done for the work to commence and familiarize with the site

After surveying the area, cleanliness is done on the site to remove obstacles for smooth running of

Activities

II. Step two

Preparation of the budget materials to be used is done where the best Quality is selected by
comparing different hardware and best valuation brand materials are bought, transported to
the site and stored in a safe place to avoid damage

III. Step three

Marking and chiseling the wall is done by using chisel and hammer according to the
measurements by using a tape measure and other appliances are also used to get accurate
measurements

IV. Step four

10
Fixing of appliances is done along their sizes and length after installation of pipes, sanitary
appliances are placed according to their positions, Flex tube is used to connect the pipe with the
kitchen sink and a connection of bottle trap to the waste pipe with the sink

V. Step five
After laying pipes along the case wall, sondle clips are used to support the pipe firmly on the
wall to ensure they are in correct position

VI. Step six

Test for leakages is done and the system was found to be excellent, mortar is placed to already
chiseled walk to return its original form

3.3TESTING OF THE PRODUCTS

Products are tested whether they are functioning well,

Water closet are tested if the trap is in position to hold water seal to prevent bad smell from entering
the building,

Ball valves is tested if it's opening and closing to allow water in and out of the cistern

Kitchen sink is well connected to pipes containing water with the flexible tube and the bottle trap is
checked whether connect the sink with waste pipe and in position to hold water

Cost of helper per day = 600

Total = 1800

Ten days = 1800 × 10 = 18 000

Total labour cost + materials cost

REFERENCE

For this project to be successful it was referred from the following areas;

I. Motivational books
II. Building service handbook
III. Plumbing mechanical service

FINDINGS

I realized that sanitary appliances like wash and bain, W.C needs more care when handling because they
can break easily thus skilled person lead to perfection of the project, making it desirable for future use

CONCLUSIONS

After the completion of the project I found that before you start any project you have to make sure that
there is enough materials for the project, in summary, by use of highly technician the system is assured
to run smoothly

RECOMMENDATIONS

I recommend other institutions to use flushing toilets because it's efficient and the process is cheaper
due to availability of materials which are locally available and accessible, it's has a capacity of serving a
large number of people.
