Dear Colleagues!
Welcome to this season's OPC scenario in which we will focus on the areas below:
Simulator detail
LOFT / LVO
Captain's manoeuvre part
F/O’s manoeuvre part
Captain’s either seat qualification
LOFT
Use the LDC to prepare dispatch calculations using the figures on the operational flightplan. Use
EXPRESS catering. This should preferably be done before reporting for the OPC.
The weather and fuel planning will be done during the briefing. Prepare yourself using weather, NOTAM
and MEL status as published on the flightplan.
The simulator EFBs include the flightplan to be used for the LOFT. You are expected to make full use of
the EFB during preflight preparations in accordance with OM-B.
The Mass & Balance and take-off performance calculations will be performed in accordance with OM-B
when in the simulator. You will be given the final figures at least 10 minutes prior to ETD.
During the LOFT the examiner will act as ATC, ground crew and cabin crew and you are expected to
include full communication with cabin crew and passengers. Due to restrictions in the simulator visual data
models, the examiner might use repositioning instead of taxi.
Manoeuvre parts
The manoeuvre parts for both Captain and F/O include the standard required items, i.e. an engine failure
takeoff, a single-engine 2D approach with autopilot, a missed approach, a single-engine ILS approach with
FD only and a landing with one engine inoperative. Due to regulatory reasons only, the 2D needs to be an
RNAV approach flown to an LNAV minimum using V/S. That is a requirement for the OPC and PC and will
not affect normal line operations. Prepare yourself by studying the Non-Precision approach Alternate
method described in OM-B 2.9.14

This includes an RTO and two LVO approaches. Please inform the examiner if you have not made any
actual/simulated Cat II/III autolands during the past six months. You will then need to make an additional
approach in the simulator.
Autoland
Make sure to accomplish at least one autoland in the aircraft every six months. This reduces the number of
required approaches during the OPC from three to two. The weather conditions do not matter, what is
important is that all callouts and procedures relating to autoland are used.
For captains to maintain their either seat qualification they will have to perform a take-off with engine failure
followed by a single engine approach, a go-around and a landing from the right-hand seat. The main focus
is on aircraft handling and that the Captain knows the correct procedures relevant to the right-hand seat
position.
MEL items
The VNAV switch and engine generator no. 1 are both INOP. What are the implications, if any, for the
ARN-OSL flight?
Questionnaire
Please complete the OPC 3 questionnaire and present your answers during the briefing. Use the company
manuals and documentation to find the answers. ETOPS qualified pilots need to answer the ETOPS
questions. The examiner is happy to discuss the answers with you.

Final words
The philosophy of the training department is that you will go away from the check feeling good, and that
you have learned something. Hopefully the OPC should prove to be both stimulating and enjoyable.
