In this 30-minute hands-on workshop for teachers, we will

● explore strategies for engaging students in their learning and empowering them with choice
and ownership, particularly as we navigate the post-COVID educational landscape.
● delve into the importance of giving students agency in their learning journey and how it
fosters motivation and deeper engagement.
● investigate how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be harnessed to streamline the planning and
preparation process of offering students choices.
● discuss AI tools and platforms that can assist in analyzing student preferences, identifying
personalised learning paths, and generating tailored resources.

By the end of the workshop, teachers will have practical insights and tools to support student
autonomy and leverage AI for efficient and effective decision-making in planning student-centred
learning experiences.
What is a Choice Board?

IT’S ALL ABOUT CHOICE!

Choice boards (aka learning menus) are a form of differentiated learning that give students a
menu or choice of learning activities.

● Choice boards can be created in a variety of styles and mediums.

● They’ve been around for a long time and originated in a static, paper format.
● With digital tools, we can bring the menus to life with interactivity and creation.
● Every student doesn’t have to do the exact same thing at the exact same time!
● Choice boards offer a flexible learning path and help us differentiate.
● Use in ANY grade level or subject area!
● And, they give students voice and choice in their learning!

What are the possible approach to choices?

Think about where in the lesson you can hand over decision making power
to the students. A simple approach is to think about the what, how, and why
of a lesson, assignment, or project and give students the opportunity
to answer one of those questions.
What? Select the subject or ● What does the student want to focus on for a
Topic lesson, assignment, or project?
● Is there an aspect of the larger topic they are
interested in?
● Can they select a lens the look though for a
particular assignment?

How? Decide on the Process ● How will they complete the task?
● What steps will they take?
● Which tools will they use?
● How will they track their own progress towards
completion?

Why? Define the purpose and ● Why are they doing this work?
define the Product ● What is the purpose of the task, assignment or
project?
● How will they demonstrate their learning?
Do not reinvent the wheel, let A.I. do the
hard work!
To bridge the gap between traditional education and the needs of 21st century society, students
need to learn how to adapt to change by making informed choices about their own learning
through agency.
