Ranunculus
Introduction
Hello! Here I’ll show you how to crochet a delicate Ranunculus. Ranunculus is a blossom
which packs immense beauty in its tiny bulb - so much detail and so much elegance. One of
the more popular wedding bouquet blossoms. This e-book includes diagrams and instruc-
tions for 2 variations of the Ranunculus (see photos above).
This pattern includes a nonstandard stitch of the Tunisian Crochet family, its a slightly
modified Tunisian simple stitch - that’s the reason I have marked this pattern as Intermedi-
ate. The stitch is easy to learn and fun to do - all included in the document and in a tutorial
video.
Materials
Front
- Size #20 blossom : 100% Mercerized Cotton Thread Size #20.
- Size #8 blossom : Pearl/Perle Cotton Size #8.
- For both blossoms : Crochet thread size #20 in Green (for Sepals & head).
- For both blossoms : Crochet Hook Size 1.0mm / US size 6.
- Floral tape, Florist stub stem.
- Polyester filler (Soft stuffer), Scissors. Tweezer, Hot Glue.
Pattern notes
In this e-book I first show a pattern diagram, and
then the instructions in American Standard Terms
(You can see conversion table for British terms at
the end of the e-book). After that you’ll find the
short photo guide for how to build the flower.
Materials Note :
For the size #20 blossom, I recommend using a 100% For tutorial about
mercerized cotton thread. But, of course, any durable Misc Stitch #1
size #20 thread could work. I’ve used thread from “Ve- please see this link.
nus” brand, but the more popular Anchor’s Freccia and Password : hpc2015
DMC’s Cebelia can be used (or any other brand for that
matter). See this Blog post for more information.

my best to help.

Ranunculus Blossom
The Ranunculus is made from 4 elements: From the bottom up - at the base, we
have the Sepals. Then, on top of the sepals is the outer petals element, which in-
cludes 3 layers of petals, then the inner petals elements (which includes 2 layers of
petals) and the last element is the head.
Therefore, you will find in the e-book, 4 different patterns, for each elements.

Each petal of layer 1 is done row by row starting with a base row of 7 chains. Each
petal includes a stitch I will called here Misc Stitch #1 (os MS1), it is very similar
to Tunisian Simple Stitch - the only difference is that we work the stitch through
the outer horizontal thread and not the vertical threads (Video Tutorial included +
Instructions in the next section).
The outer round of the disc has 24 stitches - meaning, each petal is being connect-
ed to the disc through 4 stitches (we have 6 petals in total). Each petal has 18 rows
- the rows of each petal are being connected to the disc in the following fashion :
(reverse pass, heading back up) start your way back by [yarn over, pull thread
through two loops] until you are left with one loop on the hook.
Finish the reverse pass with a chain, and start working your way back down, start-

ished the forward pass of Row 17.
Next, we sl-st to next stitch on the head and start the next petal (Rows 1-18). Re-
peat 6 times for 6 petals.
Note : Each chain row will cover 4 stitches of round 4 of the disc.

Since there are 24 stitches in the outer round, each petal will be worked in 4 stitch-
es, follow the numbering/instructions to know how many rows goes to each stitch
in each Petal.
We’ll start the outer layer by adding the thread through the chain stitch of the
outer round in the disc. Once the thread is added, we start crocheting the petals
one by one, starting with the chain row and following the instructions.

ent due to different lighting).
Since each petal of the second layer is placed between two petals of the first layer,
and each petal is being worked through 4 stitches in the round - then our chain
rows should be joined to the middle of each petal and skip 2 chains each time.
Once we crochet all the chain rows, we start to crochet the petals, one by one,
through each of the chain rows.
Please Note : Since we’ll need to start our first chain row from the third stitch, we’ll start
with a couple of sl-st to bring it to the third stitch.

The outer round of the disc has 18 stitches - meaning, each petal is being connect-

of each petal to the disc in the following way :
Add the thread through the ch stitch of the outer round of the disc.

ished the forward pass of Row 15.
Next, we sl-st to next stitch on the head and start the next petal (Rows 1-12). Re-
peat 6 times for 6 petals.
Similar to stage 2 of the outer element instructions. Here we’ll use green thread.
Row 1 : Add the petal’s thread (light green) and chain 5 times.
(reverse pass, heading back up) start your way back by [yarn over, pull thread
through two loops] until you are left with one loop on the hook.
Finish the reverse pass with a chain, and start working your way back down, start-
ing a new row and a new forward pass.
Row 3 : Repeat row 2, only this times, repeat the MS1 6 times. Finish the row’s
reverse pass with a chain as well.
Row 7 : Repeat row 4, finish this row’s reverse pass with a sl-st to the last stitch.

reverse pass with a sl-st to the last stitch as well.
Row 9 : Repeat row 8, only this times, repeat the MS1 5 times. Finish the row’s
reverse pass with a sl-st to the last stitch as well.
Next, we sl-st to next chain row and start the next petal (Rows 1-10). Repeat 6
times for 6 petals.

That’s it :) The Ranunculus is finished, crochet several of this for beautiful bou-
quets or flower arrangements. Try them without a stem - add a clasp/clip for a
delicate hair accessory or appliqué.
I really hope you enjoyed making this Ranunculus. If you have any question,
please let me know and I’ll do my best to help.
Happy Patty :)

Size #20 Ranunculus
This section includes the patterns to make the size #20 Ranunculus (pictured be-
low).
The process of making the Ranunculus + the patterns for the discs, sepals and
head are exactly the same to the smaller thread blossom. The only difference is in
the petals’ patterns - as we are using larger thread.
To make the Size #20 Ranunculus, crochet the sepals & head and the discs from
the thinner thread, add the petals that are included in this section, and follow the
instructions in the previous pages of making the flower.
