HISTORY

Putting up a school that will provide quality education at

an affordable rate has been the lifelong dream of the indefatigable

Mrs.Guia B. Urrutia, the School's Directress. With the full support

of her husband, the generous Mr. Philip C. Urrutia, and her

children, NUESTRA SEÑORA DE GUIA LEARNING CENTER

was born. Being both educators, Sir Philip and Ma'am Ging, as both

were affectionately called, they knew what they wanted for the

school. As a devotee of the Virgin of Ermita Church, Nuestra

Señora De Guia, Ma'am Ging deemed it fit to name her school the

same.

With an initial enrollment of fourteen (14) pupils and a teacher,

the school started operating for the SY 1999-2000. From there the

school never looked back. Enrollment has grown from leaps and

bounds and each year, the school adds another level. At present, the

school offers the complete pre-elementary, elementary, and first year

and second year high school levels. Committed to the delivery of

quality education at affordable rates, the school continues improving

the quality of instruction. Aside from the core competencies, the school

also offers computer education for all levels to prepare the students for

the digital age. In addition, the school has also put up a speech

laboratory to hone the students in the mastery of the English language.

Plans are also in place to further improve the school facilities within the

next few years. With faith and Inspiration from the Blessed Virgin

Mary, NUESTRA SEÑORA DE GUIA ACADEMY OF MARIKINA

looks forward to serving the community and the country for years to

come. For this reason, the name of the school was changed to

NUESTRA SEÑORA DE GUIA ACADEMY OF MARIKINA this

June, 2010.

First Week, what we did was collect ideas from the essay that the student
had written. We wrote them down and brainstormed about what we were going to

include in our presentation on stress management. While waiting for Ms.

Masangkay, she had instructed us to wait for her to assign a task. In the afternoon,

we substitute teachers in a Humss section and observed the students, addressing

their noise. Later, we returned to the library and waited for Ms. Masangkay, who

assigned us the task of creating Google Forms, which we simply copied from what

she provided. We supervised four (4) Humss sections and one (1) EIM section. We

conducted an activity that Ms. Masangkay had assigned to us. While observing the

students, we noticed that they couldn't make eye contact and seemed too shy to ask

us about any concerns they had regarding the activity. We approached them and

inquired about their issues or questions. Additionally, we held a brief meeting and

discuss our plan of during the students' break times we'll check on them and

continue our observations.

Second Week, we supervised four (4) sections. We conducted an activity

that the teachers had provided for us. Additionally, we assisted the teachers in

organizing and conducting the SSC VOTINGS. We went to every room, excused

the students to allow them to vote for the SSC, and guided them in forming lines to

access the voting stations. We roamed around the campus, and after that, teachers

assigned us to count the number of votes from what we did last September 26th.

We counted the votes of students from JP CAMPUS and GREENHEIGHTS

CAMPUS until 4 pm. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to count the votes

of PARANG CAMPUS because we had to go home as we also had evening classes.

And the next day we supervised 6 sections of HUMSS. We conducted an activity

provided by the teachers and observed the students while they were answering it.

We also counted the papers that students would use to answer questions about their

medical history and arranged them according to the classroom where the students

belonged. Ms. Masangkay also provided us with a PowerPoint presentation that

we'll be reporting on starting next week, by partners. She told us to study the

PowerPoint and prepare for a discussion about Guidance."

Third Week, what we did was a orientation about the Guidance Office and
Teachers. We provided some knowledge about how the Guidance Office and

teachers operate, explaining their roles and functions. We also asked students about

ACADEMY OF MARIKINA)

their knowledge of it and also addressed their perceptions of the Guidance Office

and teachers. Ms. Dana also assisted us; she was with us in the classroom

observing. After the orientation, she approached us and praised our performance.

She also advised us to include some humor when speaking in front of students to

grab their attention. And we did orient again until 12pm, and we substitute in the

afternoon. Then we encounter a conflict between students, then their teacher that

time is talking to them, then we go to their rooms to observe and make them quiet

and do not react to much of what happened since they're making noise about what

happened. Then a girl who have conflict with the another girl who's talking to the

teacher outside the room, that is in the room we talk to her because she's shaking

too much. We guided her to go to clinic because I saw she’s having difficulty in the

room and after we guide her to clinic, I find her adviser to know what happened to

her student and then after that we left them there.

Fourth Week, we checked the responses of students who had filled out the
inventory we had sent them. We also reached out to the class presidents to inform

them that some of their classmates hadn't completed the profiling. And we heard

that after our orientation, many students went to the guidance office to share their

problems and feelings. Moving on to the next day we revisited the inventory

profiling of students and assigned some student representatives to encourage their

peers to complete it. Our day ended early as we had to visit our school for

graduation-related matters. Then, on the 11th day, we focused on stapling papers

required to cover the test papers. We also filled in for some sections and reminded

students to work on their inventory responses if they had free time. Throughout the

day, we also sent our presentation to Ms. Masangkay for her review before our

seminar to see if any additions were needed.

Fifth Week, throughout the entire week our task revolved around stapling
all the test papers that the students will use for their upcoming exams and

organizing them into sets of 45 pieces.

Six Week, throughout the entire week our task revolved around substitutes
since teachers were doing deliberation of grades.

Proposed Guidance Program

I. Guidance Orientation Week

TARGET AUDIENCE : STUDENTS

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS: FUNCTION&ROLE OF THE GUIDANCE

OFFICE/GUIDANCE, GUIDANCE SERVICES, and HOW TO MAINTAIN

POSITIVE MENTAL HEALTH

Our recent program, the Guidance Orientation Week, aimed to change

perceptions about the Guidance Teacher's role. Led by Ms. Louisse Masangkay, we

highlighted the diverse services provided by the Office of the Guidance Teacher

(OGT) at Nuestra Señora De Guia Academy of Marikina. We clarified that the

OGT isn't a psychiatrist or psychologist. Instead, they are there to listen, counsel,

guide, and assist without prescribing medicine or diagnosing mental illnesses. We

shared the OGT's services, including counseling for various concers. The focus was

on creating a safe space for students to talk and seek help for different issues. We

addressed mental health, encouraging students to connect with others, acknowledge

their feelings, and seek help if they've faced challenges like disturbed eating or

sleeping patterns, low energy, confusion, or anxiety.

Our approach involved visiting each classroom, providing an inventory form,

and we saw more students visiting the Guidance Office afterward. The reference

showed that the program not only gave information but also encouraged students to

open up about their challenges, building trust and support in the school community

II. Stress Management Seminar

TARGET AUDIENCE: STUDENTS

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS : STRESS, TYPE OF STRESS, STRESSORS,

SYMPTOMS And STRESS MANAGEMENT

Our recent program, the Stress Management Seminar. The idea of having

seminars on Stress Management for all students is a great way to help everyone

understand stress better. Our seminar shows to students what stress looks like and

how they can deal with it. Our goal is to give them useful tips and advice that they

can actually use in their own lives.

At the end of the seminar, students learn practical ways to handle stress and,

more importantly, they become encouraged to apply these techniques in their daily

routines. This hands-on approach demonstrate how helpful the advice is, making it

easier for students to manage their stress and feel better overall.
