A clause is considered a unit of communication that conveys a message or meaning.


The message encapsulated within a clause includes not only the propositional content (what
is being said) but also various elements such as mood, modality, and interpersonal meaning

Theme : Put in First , Rheme : Put in After Theme, “The duke (T) has given my aunt
that teapot (R) “
Theme and Mood (3 kinds) = 1. Declarative (I had a little nut tree)
2. Interrogative (Who wants a glass of white coffee?)
3. Imperative (Turn it down)
Textual Theme , has a place in the first part before the others , correlate a clause with
its context, links one clause to other clauses, show relationship between what has been said
and what being said, may be in the form of conjunction, conjunctive, and continuative.

CONSTITUENTY, Syntax is about the study of sentence structure and the words that
are grouped into units (called constituents) and that these constituents are grouped into larger
constituents.
